Mechanical Fuel Pump dying after driving uphill
I broke down in my 1982 GAZ 24 Volga yesterday.
Whenever i was driving fast ~50mph and uphill it was starting to sputter and loose power, even after clearing the hill the power wouldn't come back for some time.
Yesterday it just died on a highway entrance after sputtering up the hill.
Upon inspection the Mechanical Fuel pump had died, even pumping manually via the small lever didn't pump any fuel out, instead it was feeding gas directly into the engine.
This is an easy fix, but I'm still paranoid.
The fuel line coming from the gas tank had pressure on it and was filled to the brim.
I just don't understand why on low speeds, even if i was really pushing it, everything worked fine but as soon as i surpass ~40mph it did this going uphill.
Could this be caused by another part of the fuel system or some vacuum leak, maybe even the carb?
I don't wanna replace the pump, Oil and Filer, and then immediately break the next one.
