What’s the point of a MPH?

Hi, I saw that med students can take an extra year to pursue a MPH, but I don’t really understand what value it adds to a practicing physician. I can see that if you’re trying to be a policy maker it might help, but otherwise I don’t understand what it does. Can somebody enlighten me please?
