Horse Ridden By Ego-driven Trainer

one of my horses was ridden by a trainer for a couple of years. initially the trainer was fair with the horse. as the horse went up the levels in dressage the trainer became more egotistical and used their considerable body strength to muscle the horse around in training sessions.

The trainer isn't working with this horse any longer. IMO the horse has anxious behaviors that are a result of anticipating heavy correction.

any advice on re-building the horse's confidence would be appreciated.

Fellow Equestrians, Input Please

My show horse (GP dressage) is recovering from a systemic infection that we're working on killing with antibiotics. He had surgery and may be looking at a second surgery to resolve the issue. It's fairly serious business.

His show career is over and I am resting him now. Once healthy, he will be my riding horse. That may take months which is fine; I'm in no hurry.

He is 15.

Behaviorally he can be anxious and he is mouthy.

His mental state needs some unhooking from the pressures of training and going to shows, that is something I am particularly interested in hearing about from you all.

Currently he is on a schedule of hand-walking over different surfaces including trot poles and cavalettis, stretches, backing-up at the walk, general ground manners.

Thanks for reading this.

Footware For Handwalking In Sand Arena

2 of my horses require hand-walking due to medical stuff. Our arena is sand footing. I need more support than my blundstones or my short cowboy boots, but the Ariat Terrain boots which I consider seem to have quality issues lately. Does anyone have any suggestions for supportive, horse-safe footwear that will be putting in some serious miles daily? Thanks!
