Klek's umbilical cord?

I've been wondering about Klek's shiny umbilical cord, he plugs it into a small box on stage.

Does it pipe in cool air? Is it how he hears the cleck track?

An interdimensional energy conduit?

New song? From tonight's rehearsal in Colorado 😯😀

What could be a good title for this ditty?

I would suggest Turkish Tea. Diehard King Crimson fans will get this reference.

Angine de Poitrine and King Crimson

I've noticed that quite a few KC fans also appreciate AdP. In the recent Guitar World interview Khn mentioned that King Crimson was one of the few bands that he listened to constantly when he was younger. It's also the band that I listened to constantly throughout my younger years and decades. AFAIK they are the seminal Progressive 'math rock' group, with their 1973 song 'Fracture', their 1972 album Lark's Tongues in Aspic and their breakout 1969 single 21st Century Schizoid man. King Crimson was probably the math-rockiest of math rock 80s bands, as can be heard on their 1981 song Discipline: https://youtu.be/en5YRCvppIA

What is the button?

I noticed in videos of the recent Toronto show that Khn appears to be wearing a button (or sticker) on his right sleeve which appears to have a pyramid on it. At one point between songs he points to it. Anyone know what it is, or if it's sold as merch? I don't see anything like it for sale on their site. Perhaps it was made by a fan and was given to the band. It can be clearly seen in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCzSBuVlZSI

Where to from here?

As many have seen, AdP has risen up from very humble beginnings to achieve international attention and acclaim. Of course, their 'break out' moment was the KEXP performance, which is how I came to know them. Then Jools Holland and the Montreal Jazz festival.. and tonight they play in Toronto to nearly 18,000 people between two venues.

It boggles my mind to think that their space ship has just lifted off, soaring to heights that nobody can fathom.

I read somewhere in an interview with Sebastien that there's demos for a third album and time is being set aside for more studio work later this year. To that I say HELL YEAH!

Walk-on song?

When Khn and Klek walk out on stage there's an a cappella song playing, sung in French. I haven't been able to identify it, but ChatGPT has suggested that it might be this group: Les Charbonniers de l'Enfer

Les Charbonniers de l’Enfer is a celebrated Québec a cappella folk ensemble specializing in traditional French-Canadian songs. Founded in 1992 in Montréal, the group revitalizes oral heritage through intricate vocal harmonies and percussive foot rhythms, becoming a key figure in the province’s folk revival movement.

Anyone know if this is correct, and what the song is called?

Klek's bent cymbal

In the concert performances there is a bent crash cymbal in Klek's drum kit which looks like an upside-down taco shell. I have noticed that he doesn't use it, .. or does he? I assume it would have a pretty distinct sound. Has anyone seen him hit that cymbal? Perhaps it's only there for visual esthetics.

It's not part of his kit in the KEXP video, and therefore was likely not used in the recording of the studio albums. Has anyone spotted him using it?

Classifying AdP

One thing AdP has going for them is uniqueness and novelty, combining an alien mythos, expert musicianship and funky grooves. However, many people are making comparisons with other groups and trying to classify them.

To my ears they sound like 1970s Black Sabbath meets 1980s King Crimson. If I were to apply a label I would call them psychedelic surf punk.

I've also seen comparisons made with bands like Primus, Tool and Black Midi. Anyone else have thoughts on who they sound like, or perhaps were influenced by?

Klek's finger-walk at the beginning of Sherpa, what is the meaning?

I've noticed in videos of the live gigs that during the beginning of Sherpa Klek will do a 'finger walk' motion along his left forearm, from his wrist to his elbow.

Is that to represent a sherpa climbing a mountain? This is during the acrobatic segment, when Khn sticks his leg through his fret boards.

Polka dots everywhere!

I'm starting to notice polka dot clothing everywhere, IRL and online with non-AdP-related content.

Maybe it's just the Baader–Meinhof phenomenon, also known as the frequency illusion. I've been watching a lot of AdP vids recently.

Or maybe AdP's cultural influence making polka dots a fashion fad again, as it was a century ago.

Is anyone else experiencing this noticing of polka dot-wearers?
