Can someone explain promotions to me? Like, when we promote a character, all their stats go up, so isn’t that automatically a good thing? Higher stats = better… right?

I’ve known this game for a pretty long time, and I always see people talking about “optimal promotions.” Today I stumbled across this spreadsheet:

…and now I’m even more confused lol

I still don’t understand why some cards are considered better unpromoted. My main guess is that it’s because of online matchmaking, right? But what really confused me was something someone told me a while ago when I got Metal/The Batman Who Laughs.

They said: “a lot of people keep him at E0 for his tag in but BWL evolved passive seems insanely good”

And that’s exactly what confused me. Like… what do they mean by that? Isn’t everything supposed to get better after promotion? So is the whole “don’t promote” thing only for online purposes, or is there actually some downside to promoting certain cards?

Hopefully most of my cards are still safe. The ones I’ve promoted so far are:

• Batman Ninja/Batman once
• Arkham Origins/Deathstroke once
• Prime/Black Adam promoted once
• Prime/Green Arrow once
• Regime/Green Lantern once
• Prime/Harley Quinn promoted twice
• Regime/Catwoman promoted once
• Insurgency/Deathstroke once
• New 52/Green Lantern once
• Prime/Lex Luthor once
• Prime/Sinestro once

According to the list, BN Batman is technically optimal at no promotion, but up to IV is still considered fine, while AO Deathstroke’s optimal promotion is IX.

So I think I’m still in the safe zone lol

But seriously, can someone explain why not every card should be fully promoted before I randomly start promoting everything and regret it later...
