We really need user-friendly release notes for COSMIC

I read the 1.6.0 notes from the thread/github and not much stood out to me.

Then a few hours later now I see Phoronix title, and I'm thinking WHOA per-app volume control?? I've been waiting AGES for that! How did I miss it?

Idk maybe it's just me, but I didn't parse that from the wall of text on github:

cosmic-settings - sound: add app specific settings. Like now in hindsight that makes sense, but things like this are often just way too vague imo.

I feel like it would also benefit the COSMIC project to improve the release notes for better community engagement/sharing. Way more people would be excited to keep up with the project if the patch notes weren't simply a ticket dump and were more of a "Here's what we're releasing for you guys this week!" blog post.

Any way to change the HexOS purple accent color?

Hot take maybe, but that shade of like neon purple has got to be one of my least favorite colors. Would be great if I could change it

Got my first metal detector (Nokta Legend 2), tried to figure it out with some friends - we were totally lost! Lesson learned... if you're new you really have to study...

Let me preface this by saying I am NOT critiquing the machine, just commenting on the user friendliness for a complete newbie.

I picked up a Nokta Legend 2 as my first metal detector so I could have something really good to last me a long time. Watched a couple videos ahead of time and took it out to the beach today with some friends. I figured eh I'll just figure it out on the spot. Big mistake! 4 of us were totally lost even with the manual in hand.

Could not for the life of me get it to stop randomly micro beeping all over the sand without bringing down the sensitivity way down to halfway. We were reading through the manual, changing sensitivity to half, Beach mode W/D, auto-channel/frequency selection I think, all of it (and we had no idea what we were doing). Could not seem to get ground balance to do anything either? I would press it and pump the coil over the sand, and nothing would happen.

At one point while getting it set up we buried a quarter and never found it again... how?? How did we lose a quarter right by us with a whole fancy new metal detector??

Super confusing! I couldn't even reliably get it to detect my keychain sitting on top of the sand. I wouldn't get a solid target ID it would jump all over the place. And just tons of false positives all over the place. Obviously user error not the machine though.

In the end we managed to find 2 bits of metal scrap trash, a bottle cap, and a penny. The joke of the night is our first treasure hunt we managed to end up negative 24 cents

Anyways just posting this story because it was mildly funny, but also I am a bit disappointed how the hunt went. Why are these menus and configs so confusing on metal detectors in 2026? I have no doubt it's a great machine but man the user-friendliness/user-experience could really use some improvements for newcomers. I thought it would be a lot more pick-up-and-go than it turned out to be. You practically have to study what the icons all mean and how to configure things.

TL;DR I wish metal detectors were a bit more newbie friendly, I might've gone in a bit over my head. Time to do some research to prep for the next hunt...

Would love to purchase a System76 keyboard, but we need TKL and a rotary volume knob!

TKL and Rotary volume knob is a non-negotiable for me. Please consider so you can take my money!

Very jealous of the amazingly good usb hub built into the keyboard, I'll patiently wait for a v2 hopefully with the above

Anyone else been unable to paste images into Discord? Is this a COSMIC or Discord issue?

Started out of nowhere like a week ago, it's been very annoying needing to use browser Discord to paste screenshots. But I'm unsure if its Discord or COSMICs fault, and what I can do to fix it

When will COSMIC support remembering window positions/sizes?

I love COSMIC but I find this the most frustrating thing about it in its current state. Having to reposition and resize windows constantly is super annoying

How to get COSMIC to remember my airpods as priority audio device?

This has annoyed me for a long time, is it just not implemented yet? It's two problems

  1. Sometimes the airpods auto connect to COSMIC as soon as I take them out of the case, but sometimes they dont.
  2. COSMIC never remembers to switch to Airpods even with they autoconnect. I always have to manually switch over.

Just another death by thousand papercuts with the current experience. This one bugs me a lot

Which orientation is better and why? Align print lines to gantry axis, or diagonal?

Curious because I would assume aligned gives the best quality, but auto orienting places it diagonally and I want to understand why

Maybe too early to say but curious on people's thoughts. I have a P1S/AMS combo that has worked well. I'm interested in the INDX units for

  1. Less waste when printing with support interface materials (like PLA+PETG), especially on large curved surfaces where normally I wouldn't because the amount of waste would be too high

  2. The ability to have different nozzle sizes for easy prototyping without having to manually swap nozzles. Though I would still occasionally have to swap filaments between nozzle sizes (do we know how easy or hard this is?).

My main concerns are

  1. CoreOne+ seems massively physically larger than my current setup? especially with spools on the SIDES, I wish they could be neatly stacked on top like the AMS.

  2. Strange/smaller build volume (250x220x270) compared to P1S (256x256x256) despite larger size

  3. Price seems very high

  4. It's kinda ugly. I hate the ptfe tubes sticking out on top and the "hat" with wasted space, I think the AMS is more visually nice in my apartment
