NGD: Boden Essential

Just got this bad boy in, promptly set it up in drop C and went to town for three hours.

The primary reason I bought this guitar is because it's half the weight of even my lightest guitar and I am physically disabled with back problems. Two weeks ago I was standing and playing at practice with my Music Man Cutlass for about three hours and couldn't move the next day. Knew I needed a change and pulled the trigger. But holy crap, didn't know it'd be THIS light.

Quick review time:

Pros:

  1. Frets feel smooth to bend on and the fretboard was well-hydrated.
  2. Strings are snappy and the guitar resonates nicely. As well as any of my other guitars do. The sustain is surprisingly good for a guitar so light.
  3. The Endurneck is insanely comfortable for long sessions and my hands instantly felt less fatigued when playing chords on lower frets than with a regular neck.
  4. Hardware and finish feel pretty solid. I was skeptical of this but it seems like it'll hold up. Remains to be seen long term!

Guitar was in perfect tune after being shipped cross-country and refuses to go out of tune.

Cons:

  1. Fret ends are a little sharp, I'll probably take this in for a setup and get it dealt with, but overall there's no raised frets and they came nicely polished.
  2. It's gonna take some time to get used to the knob positions, they aren't the most intuitive.
  3. The input jack came a little loose. Probably will replace this with a higher quality one during the setup so no big deal

Overall 9 out of 10 and will be a 9.5 once I get a professional setup. The only thing holding it back are the "meh" pickups, but I'm not a huge snob about that sort of thing.

Is this normal for ground shipments?

I've been waiting on a guitar for a while, it's pretty much a cross-country long haul so I'm wondering if it just went straight onto a truck and headed out this way.

Just pulled the trigger and ordered a Boden Essential. What to expect?/Concerns.

I've wanted a Strandberg since 2014-2015 but have always been a little wary of the price; I live in Canada, a thousand kilometers away from any retailer that sells strandbergs in-person (WHY ARE THEY ALL IN QUEBEC?!) so I didn't want to drop $2500 Canadian on a guitar I haven't played. I was also a bit weary of the fanned frets as I've never really enjoyed them despite giving them lots of chances. I busted a spinal endplate a few years ago and my Music Man/PRS guitars are just too heavy for extended jam sessions now, so I don't have much of a choice now, and I was thrilled to see a non-fanned model for a reasonable price

My main concerns:

  1. Will the Endurneck force me to change my technique in order to be comfortable? I have big hands, so I often toss my thumb over the neck for leverage when playing up high as I can't squeeze it comfortably onto the back of the neck without serious wrist tension. Is this something that'll be uncomfortable to do?

  2. I'm a little leery of the zinc material hardware. I plan on setting it up with one string gauge, one time (12-54's in Drop C) and leaving it there forever. Do you think the hardware will hold up alright with live use provided I clean it and service it regularly, changing strings about once a month or so?

  3. With the body shape in general, did you lose any sitting positions that were possible with other guitars? I am a bigger guy, and even my Music Man Cutlass feels pretty small in my hands. I like to lay back, relax and play in a semi-reclined position when I'm just jamming out or practicing.

Thanks, and I'm looking forward SO MUCH to getting this new guitar. Overall these are all things I can adjust to, not necessarily dealbreakers, I just don't know how far the experience of "conventional guitar" is from "strandberg guitar".

Issues with PayPal Instant Transfer. Ripping my hair out.

Howdy doody.

Last night, at around 4PM, I received a paypal payment. It cleared, and the money was firmly in my account - no holds, nothing. I used the "instant deposit" to put it directly into my bank account. Again, it showed up immediately, no holds, the transaction was applied to my account.

Around 2AM, while I was sleeping, I got an email saying my account was low on funds which I thought was weird, so I opened my banking app in the morning and checked it only to see the money was gone and I'd gone into overdraft. The transaction was also gone, like it had never been there to begin with. Again, there were no pending funds, no "on hold", nothing like that, so I got worried and called the bank. They said they'd seen the transaction on their end, but it "hadn't gone through", and that I should wait until the evening and call back if it hadn't cleared.

My paypal wallet is still empty, no "pending" on their end either, just says the transaction was completed successfully. The part that's pissing me off is that there's no entry in my online banking saying the money came or went.

The woman on the phone was supremely unhelpful and just said "Sometimes it's an issue on paypal's side. wait until tonight and see if it comes through." I asked if the overdraft fee (45 dollars!) was going to be incurred and she said it was, because I used my overdraft. I said I should not be paying overdraft fees because I DO NOT HAVE AN OVERDRAFT. She said I can appeal after the fee is applied if I feel it's wrong.

Has anyone else experienced this? What the hell do I even do at this point?
