My husband saw a mama get hit in the road today, and stopped. There were tons of babies, but only these three lived. I’m in a very rural community and don’t have access to any rehabber. We do live on a farm, so I have some supplies as needed.
How old do you think these three are? What is the feeding schedule and what do I feed them? Right now they’re curled up in a box with a heating pad on one side to keep them warm.
I have two really good dogs. Ruby is a 4 year old blue heeler, and Hazel is a 6 year old boxer/Aussie mix. Both very sweet, family oriented, cuddle monsters.
Hazel is reactive, and we’ve picked up on her triggers by now. She doesn’t like a lot of excitement or high energy around her, and doesn’t do well with things that are out of the norm (bath time, thunderstorms, etc.). She’s also a resource guarder; not food, but toward her favorite people. Generally, it’s no problem and we manage. The problem is when I can’t catch it early enough, or dont pick up on warning signs. If she gets too overstimulated, she bites Ruby. It’s like things add up for her. Like, if there’s a day we have a thunderstorm, then a stranger knocks on the door, then Ruby plays too hard with a toy, that sets her off, when normally Ruby playing with a toy wouldn’t be an issue.
Ruby, understandably, bites back when Hazel does this, and then I have a full blown dog fight going on. It takes me and my husband to separate them using the wheelbarrow method.
These fights are rare, maybe 1-2 times a year. I should also point out, neither dog is aggressive toward people either. We slowly reintroduce them to one another, and they go back to being best friends. But it’s exhausting always trying to read Hazel’s behavior and keep her from bubbling over.
I want to talk to my vet about medication, but I wanted to get some opinions of people who have gone through this. Did medication help? I don’t want or expect her to be a zombie. I just want her level of tolerance to raise so that stacking factors aren’t as likely to set her off.
Any advice?
I’ve considered getting my nose done for years, but I don’t know what to ask for. I don’t mind my nose from the front actually. I think it fits pretty well. But girl, that side view. It’s…hooked? Fleshy? What sort of nose do I have, and how do I describe it?
