Questions after timing belt service.

Hello all!

I recently purchased a 1996 Honda Acty van and did the whole service with new belts, pulleys, valve cover, etc. She has 99500 kms on the engine and overall isn't very rusty.

I've driven the van around 10 miles or less and she idles perfectly and starts up like a top everytime. The concern im having is I dont have a comparison on how the engine is supposed to sound, smell, ir feel.

The engine kind of sounds like a sewing machine with an exhaust and idles at 900-1000k rpm when warm. Slowly revs to 2000rpm on cold start (which i heard is normal but makes me uncomfortable)

When parking in the garage and immediately closing the door the van smells hot but almost kind of rubbery which has me concerned. Is the rubbery smell from the belts breaking in and things burning off or is it possible I did the timing belt incorrectly?

If anyone has a good source for this info or self experience please let me know, im trying not to drive the van until im confident I did everything right but its also now my DD starting in a few days.

Thank you.

New scope day!

Got myself a Reichert Microstar IV recently and must say this is a beautiful scope. The optics are wonderful, knobs feel great, and overall build quality seems tanky. I cant really find much info on these scopes online and am surprised theirs not a niche following for them like vintage telescopes.

I paid $220 for mine and is the same if not better quality than the scope I used in a professional vet med lab years ago. For those looking for a good scope to get into the hobby or upgrading I can give a recommendation this scope.

The cruel world of Desk Pets

I see a lot of pictures about the frogs which is understandable but let's not forget about the jumping spiders. All of these enclosures were way too dry despite "being misted everyday". Jumping spiders tend to want to be at the top enclosure but I couldn't see any spiders. They were most likely in the moss gathering as much moisture as they could. Even if they were the proper humidity I dont believe they will be taken care of properly in the long run by the stores.
