Invited to a zoom meeting with a potential supervisor to not ask anything about my research and just tell me to stop trying because I'm not from a ranked school ..

Idk what to feel

Should i be happy or not yet?

After i cold emailed a professor and got ghosted and then sent a follow up email 20 days later and he replied and requested a zoom meeting.. is this a positive sign or should i calm down and it's just a formality???

I was deeply interested in this professor's research since it falls the closest to my topic

Students who got accepted into phd in finance in Hong kong, what was your profile like ? Is it reachable for a masters graduate from a 3rd world country without published papers/prior research experience (except masters thesis) ??

Another masters before phd ?? HELP MEEE

Hi there, please i need advice on what the members with more experience think.

Im 22 and i have an M.S in corporate finance, but I've never wanted to get an office job I've always dreamed about having a career in academics and research.

I want to pursue a phd but i feel like i don't have the necessary skills for it, I have never touched python before and i don't know how to process data and overall i have no idea what i will be doing in my lab desk and it's freaking me out all i know about PhD is that i need to read a lot and answer the questions in my mind but idk how 💔

I'm thinking about doing another 1 or 2 years masters in business analytics or econometrics to get some research and data courses .. is this a dumb idea ?? (You can be harsh it's okay..)

Phd in finance in asia ? Without an asian master ?

Hello everyone, first time asking here because I'm feeling so lost and i need help :/

For context first I'm a woman, 23 years old with a masters degree in corporate finance from the number 1 top business school in my country (Morocco), i graduated last year and I've been feeling lost since then.

My masters ended in summer 2025 after an exchange semester in seoul south korea and a 6 months end of studies internship in a leading investment bank here in Morocco where i wrote my graduation thesis about Particularities in valuation methods for financial institutions that made me graduate with honors.

After i got my masters most of my classmates went rushing towards the job market but honestly the idea of working in an office this early at my age did sound like something i wanted to do with my life, so I didn't try to find a job and kept turning down lots of calls from local banks and companies (1st mistake). I tried to continue my education because I've always been impressed with my professors or professionals who had international degrees, either another masters in europe or a phd in asia and I've always felt inspired by their careers, so i tried to go further with my education but it didn't go as smoothly as i was expecting.

I expected that i would easily find an opportunity with a full scholarship (because I can't afford it) but every opportunity i find would either require working experience, research papers published, prioritize masters in their countries, or have very hard to get scholarships (I'm not an athlete and i don't have an outstanding extracurricular cv :/ I've spent my whole life buried in books but degrees aren't everything after all).

I wanted to go to top business schools in france but they were insanely expensive, I looked for masters/phd opportunities in asia but they were very selective or do not offer much career opportunities after graduation and people talking about their experiences only made me feel like it's going to be a waste of years of my life.

I need advice on what to direct my attention to at the moment.. should i apply for a masters/phd in hongkong, china or SG? What are the best countries/universities for research in finance? what are the best universities that can offer me a scholarship based on my cv and current situation? :(

Idk if i described everything properly in this post ..

Ps : i am fluent in English, french, arabic, intermediate in korean. My masters with 15/20 (idk how much in gpa), my exchange semester in seoul 4.25/4.5 gpa.
