Course registration advice

Starting as a freshman this Fall, really nervous since I know our registration date is farther from the other levels..so I heard slots may already be taken before I get the chance huhu.

I also heard the level of speed one needs for sugang. Should I ask my friends to go on my ku account on their devices so Im like a 5 in one? Idk, any tips or even comfort lol

Yonsei UIC (ISED) vs. Korea University (EE). Talk about graduation, no scholarship, and living costs?

I’m an incoming international student trying to make a huge decision between two offers: Yonsei UIC (ISED) and Korea University (Electrical Engineering). Also, my SKKU result is coming on July 16th.

My ultimate goal is to graduate entirely in English and leave Korea after for my master’s abroad. I have zero plans (as of now) to stay in Korea long-term. I need some unfiltered, realistic advice on a few things:

  1. The KU English graduation path: For international students in KU electrical engineering, how do they manage an all-English path? It’s concerning that many major-required courses and technical electives lack English sections. If my goal is an English-taught degree for a global master’s program, is KU a trap? How do non-Korean speakers handle mandatory Korean language requirements and major classes without harming their GPA?

  2. Yonsei UIC ISED (No Scholarship): Since I didn’t receive an initial scholarship from Yonsei, I’ll be paying the full tuition out of pocket. Given that I want to move to Western countries/abroad for grad school, do UIC’s environment, curriculum, and international recognition actually justify the steep price tag? Is the post-grad pipeline worth the investment?

  3. Cost of Living: Can any current student (ideally South Asian students) give me a raw, realistic estimate of monthly living expenses in Korea? I just need a breakdown of dorms/rent, food, transport, and daily life (everything except tuition).

Would really really appreciate if anyone can Help Out!!

Frontier House for International Students?

Hi,

Im from the east coast of canada and im going over to Korea for the fall semester. I got placed in a double room in Frontier which to my understanding is pretty exclusive to domestic Korean students. I was hoping to stay in residence as a way to easily meet other exchange students and build a social circle, so I’m a bit concerned about the potential language barrier. I’m also a little worried about being paired with a roommate who may not speak much English. Anyone in the same boat or have any information on the experience at Frontier?

How long did it take for you to receive your Certificate of Admission for your D-2 student visa after being accepted to Korea University?

Hi everyone!
I have a question for international students who got admitted to Korea universities.
How long did it take for you to receive your Certificate of Admission (or the admission documents needed for a student visa) after you sent the documents?
I’m trying to estimate the timeline for my visa application, so I’d really appreciate it if you could share your experience. Thank you!

Looking for an English-speaking friend!

Hi! I’m a 21-year-old Korean girl living in Seoul.

I really enjoy meeting new people and having conversations in English. I’d love to make some international friends and hang out together!

I’m pretty outgoing and open-minded. I love trying new food, watching movies and dramas, listening to K-pop, and playing or watching sports like basketball, badminton, horseback riding, and baseball. Even if we don’t have the same hobbies, I’d love to hear about what you’re passionate about.

If you’re living in Seoul, it’d be great to grab a coffee, explore the city, or just chat in English together. I’d especially love to meet native English speakers.

Feel free to send me a message! 😊

How difficult is it for international students to get scholarships after enrolling at Korea University?

Hi everyone,

I'm an admitted international student at Korea University, but I didn't receive an entrance scholarship.

I have a few questions:

  • How competitive are the scholarships for current international students (Excellence, High Achievers, Bright Futures, etc.)?
  • What GPA do students usually need to receive them in reality?
  • Is it realistic to expect scholarships after the first semester, or are they only awarded to the very top students?

I'd really appreciate hearing from current students or alumni. Thanks!

I am in desperate need for some info.

Do you think I have a chance of getting into Hanyang University or korea university?

Graduated from 12th grade with a 4.0 GPA.

Won Student of the Year four times (I only have certificates for three of those awards).

Currently studying for the IELTS and am very likely to score 7.0 or higher.

I was bullied in 10th grade and received an awful score of 82, but I improved to 91 in 11th grade and finished with a 4.0 GPA in 12th grade.

(Be brutally honest about it, and be sure if i have a chance for scholarships as well)

Asking for some basic answers

So i have question for international students studying in Korean language...if u got through scholarships i think there is a language learning year and after that your actual studies begin...so do u ever find it hard to study in completely diff language like u are still not that proficient or comfortable in Korean and u have to study subs like maths or phy do u ever find it hard?? Even during exams or assignments when u have to do academic writings does the language become a barrier for u? Even though u know answers but not very sure how to write that properly like the proper Korean student....I really want to know about this...

korea uni global open major or yonsei uic hass division

i know that korea vs yonsei is probably debated a lot but i don't have a lot of time before decide so i wanted to ask🙏🏻😓

it seems like from what i read online ku's international student support is bad.
i applied for the gomd there so that i can work on my korean more the first year and then choose a major. i'm also still indecisive so this track felt like a really good option for me. even though my korean maybe gets to a really good level i'd still choose one of the majors that is mostly taught in english. but i'm seeing that even for english taught majors sometimes the assignments and tests are in korean. is it true?

uic seems like a better place because of its international environment. one of the cons is that hass being at the songdo campus all 4 years. also i doubt my division-major choice there. i studied in the science-math track of my high school. when i applied to uic i felt like i didn't wanna go into anything stem, maybe because of pressure around me etc. and i applied for double majoring in information and interaction design and creative tech management in my mind. i wanted something more creative but i think i can do better at a stem degree. i'm not so sure about this decision now. 😬☹️ i can still somewhat try to double major with something from ised. but i don't know if it's common or realistic to do that.

korea uni still gives me an option to go into a natural science major or to an engineering major but seeing many mixed reviews makes me confused.

1. Looking for advice from students who studied or received scholarships in South Korea

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to apply to study in South Korea, and to be honest, I'm feeling very anxious about the competition.

I've been working hard to strengthen my application. I'm currently preparing for both IELTS and TOPIK. I also have several certificates in Business Administration and research-related fields. In addition, I've written an economic research paper comparing South Korea and Algeria, and I have some beginner programming experience through small personal projects.

My Korean level is close to TOPIK Level 3, and I have a very clear goal: I want to study Business Administration in South Korea and build my career there.

I also have volunteer certificates, including one related to UNESCO, but I'm still worried about writing my Personal Statement and Study Plan. I keep wondering if they're good enough or if I'm missing something important.

If you've applied for GKS or any Korean university, I would really appreciate hearing about your experience.

  • What do you wish you had known before applying?
  • What mistakes should I avoid?
  • What made your application stand out?
  • Any advice for writing a strong Personal Statement and Study Plan?

Please feel free to share your personal journey, whether you were accepted or rejected. I believe every experience can teach me something valuable.

Thank you so much in advance. I truly appreciate any advice or encouragement you can share! 🤍

How many hours a week, roughly, should I study at Korea University?

I am an American student doing a semester abroad this fall at Korea University and want to try to figure out how much I need to study outside of classes. I will be taking four courses, same as my home university, and usually study between 25-40 hours a week back home. I have all my STEM courses finished so I would not be doing any.
I’ve heard many conflicting things from Korean undergrad and graduate students and have no idea what I’m actually in for.
