Jobs for Seniors?

Hi all,

I know a senior citizen who really wants to stay active and keep his mind engaged so I'm trying to find things for him to do. I know there are community centers where seniors do fun activities but I think he would feel best working in some capacity. He's great with numbers but doesn't speak English and ideally, the position would be in Jackson Heights or not too far so he can walk there (he can walk just fine but has trouble bending or sitting on the floor). If anyone has leads/suggestions for what to do, please let me know and thank you!

Agency, partnership, corps

Does anyone happen to have a one-pager or some simple chart for me to keep these 3 separate and learn all the rules? I'm having trouble keeping everything straight for these, anything would be so helpful ty!!

MPT Advice

(using BARBRI MPT prompts for context) I have 2 points of concern on the MPT rn, if anyone has advice, that would be so appreciated!

I'm struggling with over-including information on MPTs, which is affecting my timing on the MPT. For example, if one of the cases in the library cites 3 cases and I can analogize the facts at hand to all 3, I will include all 3 cases in my answer but then the scoring rubric only mentions one of them so it was a waste of time for me to include the other two. All 3 make sense to analogize to, so I'm confused as to how I'm supposed to tell which case is *the one* to include?

Additionally, does anyone know where I could find MPT outline examples? Not answers to the MPT but the outline that people create in the first 45 minute. I've watched the BarMD youtube video and she shares her written answer but not a written outline before writing out the answer. I'm struggling with the level of detail to include in an outline so it would be really helpful to see a real example alongside an actual MPT prompt.

Thank you in advance!

ETA: If any companies are going to use this to advertise some packet I can purchase for the MPT, please don't , thank you.

BABRI MEE Grading - Help?

I'm confused by BARBRI's MEE grading. When I self-grade an essay, for example, a score of 40 would fall into their "35-42 Above passing" range. However, if I get an essay graded by one of their graders and they score me at a 40, their comments say I'm slightly below passing. Am I missing something? Are they using a different scale? Thank you in advance!

Confusing HPD Inspection?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently having a super confusing HPD experience. The inspector came by a couple of days ago and said he would be issuing a violation for X thing but now the website says "HPD conducted an inspection of this complaint. The conditions observed by the inspector did not violate the housing laws enforced by HPD. The complaint has been closed."

Anyone have an idea of what's going on? I tried my borough's HPD number but they never pickup and I've contacted 311 and they said they can't do anything related to this.

I plan on going to their office in person on Monday but getting anxious about what this means--if it was an error/if I will have to file a whole new 311 complaint and get a new inspection all over again, so any insight is appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Advice on Landlord/Housing Court (Roach Issue in Apartment)

Hi everyone,

I moved into a new place and found roach droppings all over the kitchen. When I say all over, I mean all over. Not only inside the cabinets but stuck in the wood of the cabinets (because the wood on the inside was not finished/varnished, the natural wood grain is exposed and there are droppings caught in that). I also found more dead roaches than I can count. I reported this to the management company and to jump ahead a bit, their most recent "resolution" was sending a professional cleaner.

I thought that may take care of it but after the cleaner left, I did a clean of the kitchen myself and there were still roach droppings coming out of the cabinets. Again, because it is quite literally in the wood, it's in the crevices, etc. After that, I also found dead roaches and droppings in the wiring of the microwave (I was cleaning on top of the microwave and spotted something through the gaps of the little vent on top so decided to unscrew it and found disgusting clusters of roach droppings and dead roaches). After this, I decided I should check under the dishwasher too and again, found more.

I sent photos of all of this to the management company over the weekend but they were out of office. I then called them this morning since they're back in office and the person I'm speaking with told me that this isn't his area of expertise, but that his team will get back to me by the end of today with a plan. He did, however, want to "set expectations" and confirmed that they will not be gutting the kitchen/removing the cabinets. I explained to him that the roach droppings are literally in the wood so I don't see how they'd resolve this issue without doing so, but he said he can't comment on anything further, he just knows that removing cabinets is not within the scope of what they do for these types of things.

I then called HPD to file a complaint and am now also trying to find pro bono representation for housing court since I was told that's what I may need to do on the HPD call, but if anyone has additional advice/experiences on this situation, please let me know. I'm genuinely appalled by the amount of dead roaches and droppings I've found and I don't know how the management company isn't scrambling to try and fix this issue after seeing the photos I sent them. I even told them I'd be filing an HPD complaint and the person I was speaking to reacted extremely casually. Any advice on dealing with this situation would be so appreciated, thank you in advance.
