We're heavily considering leaving the US for Europe. We're getting very discouraged about the future prospects for our kids in this country and the general direction it seems headed. So we think it may be time to utilize those dual US-EU passports.
We generally want to relieve ourselves and our kids of the pressures of the US healthcare system and avoid the student loan system down the road, but we also just want to expose the kids to other cultures and languages.
We would be going to a German-speaking country in the Alps, since I'm fluent in German, and we'll be able to help the kids with their school.
The choice is between southern Germany, Switzerland and Austria. We work from home and will continue to do so.
Our main concern is the kids' school (currently elementary school). They truly enjoy the vibe of the American school system. The general friendliness of the teachers. I don't think the education is particularly good here, but I'm also not sure they'll thrive in a stricter European school setting. They might, but I have my doubts.
We've visited those countries multiple times, but living there is obviously different. I'm specifically interested in knowing more about the school systems and any anecdotal experiences from those countries. What do you wish you had known before moving there?
