I dislike Equestria Girls even though I've never seen it

for context, i've never watched EQ although I've seen the whole of FiM and read all the comics.
It doesn't feel the same, they're not ponies (I really liked the pony setting of FiM) and it's not Equestria. From the clips I've seen I really dislike the art style and the humanification, and the high school setting too. It reminds of me too much of a high school romance anime or something.

Follow up: Should I give it a chance? Is it worth pushing through and watching it anyway for the extra content?

Edit: Thanks everypony for the input! Lot of comments so I can't reply to you all. it seems like there's mixed reviews but the people who agreed with the reasons I gave seemed not to like it. I think I might watch a bit of it and see how it goes.

My grid!

I tried really hard not to put anypony down twice, otherwise pinkie pie would take up like 4 slots!
Along with dislilking the CMC at first, I also disliked discord at the beginning, and then I started warming up to both of them.
And Octavia is great but the desperation glaze is crazy

How I would have written Spike

A lot of people say that the writers didn't know what to do with Spike and his role was very unclear - is he a brother, baby, friend, etc.
So here's what i'd do:
All dragons (or some/most) are assistants to high sages and wizards while they are young, and since dragons (traditionally) age slowly they could serve somepony for a very long time. During this time, they're passively learning a lot of information that could be useful for when they leave and be a "big" dragon - Think of Smaug - an extreme example, I know, but it could make sense to say that the way he knows so much about magic and is so wise etc is because he was an assistant to a powerful wizard.
For a student to get an assistant, the exam of making the egg hatch is perfect. It gives a reason that the dragon would stay with you, and as we saw with Twilight in the comics it also teaches them a bit about the real world so they can learn non-academic things, which are ultimately also useful in academics.
I actually thought this the first time I watched the show - I thought all high up/important/excellent students and sages and wizards had a dragon assistant of their own. So Celestia, Sunburst, Starswirl etc would all have one.
This would explain why Spike is so often doing chores for Twilight - it could be his "job," to organize/fetch books, and make sure his master has everything she needs for study.

What do you think?
