Professor X and Jean Grey dynamics in the MCU

Given what we know about MCU Jean Grey and her origin story, we probably wont get the dynamics between Jean and Xavier that is remotely close to the comics or previous adaptations.

How do you guys think the dynamics between Professor X and Jean Grey in the MCU should plays out?

Personally, I’m keen to see a more tumultuous dynamics between the two as written below:

  1. Plenty of arguments/disagreements as Jean views Xavier’s dream of peaceful coexistence between humans and mutants is naive. Charles will have difficult time teaching Jean restraint, control and “manners” for telepath.

  2. Charles will provide Jean kindness and sympathy for her situations between his teaching, which gives her the parental love she received when she accessed Peter’s memory of Aunt May. She will also learn that there is a merit in creating the better world for mutants through Xavier ways even though her tendency to be skeptical of authority figures is not ironed out.

This will tenderizes Jean towards Charles and she will begin to see him as a father figure who gives her family, home and new purposes of life. Although its important to maintain that its not as squeaky clean between the two compared to the source material and most adaptations, partly due to her experiences with Metzger.

  1. By the third movie, some of the secrets Charles trying to keep (Legion, Danger, and truth about Alex and Gabriel fate after the plane crash) begins to unravel thanks to Jean’s psychic powers pierced through Charles’ walls as well as the public reveal of Federal X-Factor led by Alex.

Charles relationship with Scott and Jean becomes more strained as events like countless sentinel attacks, operation zero tolerance, attacks by Friends of Humanity/Purifiers and top of all, Genosha, keeps happening and vindicated Jean’s more radical talking points.

MCU Jean and Scott relationship as device for Character Development

MCU Jean Grey made her debut as a misanthropic, angry young woman who holds resentment towards humanity for things she has gone through (BND Jean views is very close to Magneto worldview) and neither her interaction with Aunt May/Peter at the end of BND nor Secret Wars is going to change her worldview/character anytime soon.

We dont know how MCU Scott is going to be written in the first movie, but I assume Connor’s Cyclops will start out as a boy-scout who believes in Charles ultimate dream of peaceful coexistence to create a safe world for mutants to live in.

I have ideas on how to use MCU Scott and Jean relationship as means to develop their respective character (Please take a note that this will occur throughout the saga and not just in a couple of movies)

  1. Get Jean on the wrong foot with Cyclops at the beginning. I would love to see Scott having a hard time dealing with her rebellious personality resulting in clashes and bickers between the two, especially with how contrasting their personality are (Scott’s discipline and sense of control to Jean’s aggression and rebellious personality). Beneath these confrontation, there are genuine attraction towards each other’s opposing personality

  2. Uses their exchange on their views towards mutant-human relationship, ideology, and combat approach as a means to both develop their relationship and their character respectively. Jean admires Scott’s discipline and sense of control which she later utilize to be more effective and efficient in using her powers, as well as seeing the merit of Charles/Scott pacifist views as a means to create the better world for mutants, from which she started to develop better moral code.

In return, Scott is envy of Jean’s aggression and confidence in combat which become inspiration to sharpen his decision making skills later on, while also realizing Jean’s more radical views on human/mutant relationship is not entirely unfounded.

  1. Throughout field mission experiences and more intimate exchanges, Scott and Jean shall push each other to become the better version of their previous selves as their romance further develops.

  2. Scott will eventually grow jaded with Charles and his dream as he watches some of Jean’s more radical talking points proven to be true through persistent Sentinel attacks, purifiers/FoH, Operation Zero Tolerance, and Genosha, along with how Charles has been manipulating Scott and keeping secrets from him (such as the truth about Alex, Gabriel and Christopher as Charles planted a fake memory about them in Scott’s mind)

He finally drifted away from Charles after getting sick of his manipulation and secrecy, thus leading on his own terms and become more militant as well as pragmatic. Meanwhile Jean, feeling vindicated by her earlier radical worldview while also developed altruism to build a better world for mutants, accompany Scott on his side to provide him the needed moral compass and together they become the symbol of Mutant Revolution.
