Update: Battery drain

I posted last week about my new EX5 Inspire losing 20% charge just sitting in the garage for a few days. I think I’ve found a solution so thought I’d share an update for anyone who’s interested.

After charging (not fully) and driving it again, I parked it on Thursday night with 80%. Before leaving it, I went into the settings and turned off both the wifi and the bluetooth. Then I turned off the a/c via the button on the middle console.

I’ve checked the app periodically over the weekend and there has been no drain. I just double checked the car itself (Monday lunchtime) and it is still sitting on 80%.

Hope this helps if anyone else encounters similar issues with battery drain while the car is not in use. FWIW, my car wasn’t connecting to the wifi anyway so that’s no loss, and I haven’t found it difficult to reconnect my phone via bluetooth (yet). The interior of the car was quite chilly compared to last week though so I suspect the a/c was the main culprit.

Battery drain when parked?

I picked up my EX5 Inspire ER last week. On Saturday, I took it out for a bit of a drive and to run some errands so I could get used to it and adjust some settings in a more relaxed way. When I got home, the battery level was 91%. I worked from home the last couple days so it hasn’t been used since. Out of curiosity, I just opened the app to see what the battery level was after a few days of non-use and it’s now sitting at 71%.

Is that normal for the battery level to drop 20% in 3 days? Are there settings that I need to check/turn off to avoid the battery being drained?

I’m also curious about how I’d go leaving it at the airport while on holidays (I usually drive myself). The dealer said there’d be no issues but now I wonder if the battery would die before I returned…

Update: drove to the office today (roughly 20km), parked in parking garage for 8-9 hours then back home again. Checked battery and it had dropped another 10% since last night 😮 It’s currently charging (granny charger) but I’m in the office tomorrow so don’t think I’ll be able to charge it to 100% so assume that will mess up any potential calibration.

It finally arrived!

I finally took delivery of my EX5 this week - 3 months after placing my order, and a couple delays later. I can’t wait to take it for a drive on the weekend so I can get used to the different features (my first EV).

I am loving my colour choice. The Jungle green is such a nice, sparkly shade IRL and the midnight interior goes so well with it ☺️

You guys really weren’t exaggerating about the cup holders though! My medium reusable takeaway coffee cup fits fine but I’m not sure I’d fit a second in there. But my 600ml Avanti water bottle, which has is a pretty slim bottle, won’t fit at all 🤷‍♀️

Shout out to my fellow Geely-ers who faced delivery delays back in March and April. I hope you’re all enjoying your cars now.

Charging etiquette in multistory / long stay carparks?

I understand there’s etiquette around using public charging particularly at fast charging stations. However, I was wondering if there are similar expectations for charging stations in multistory, long-stay carparks.

For example, the place where I park near work has about 6 EV parks with BYO cable charging per level. It’s a 10-20 minute walk for me in each direction, so I don’t want (or have time) to have to walk back to move my car when it’s done charging. Plus, it’s unlikely I would find another space in the carpark halfway through the day.

So, in this situation, is it considered acceptable to park, plug and leave it for the whole day? Or are there still rules of etiquette that I should follow?

Website issues?

I just made final payment for my upcoming cruise. First had trouble logging on because the pop up kept coming up blank. After finally accessing my booking and making the payment, the banner at the top confirming payment was in Japanese (I’m in Australia).

Meanwhile, this was after spending forever trying to book my post cruise stay because Hilton couldn’t verify the card I had just used to pay for my pre-cruise stay.

I’ve received an email today from Carnival Cruise Line (reply@carnivalcruiselineemail.com.au) with links for me to “Enrol and Accept” to carry over my VIFP status into Carnival Rewards. The email addresses me by my full name and refers to an existing VIFP club number.

The thing is, I have only ever sailed with Princess and Royal Caribbean. According to my Google search, Princess cruises don’t earn VIFP points and the points can’t be used towards Princess cruises.

All the links seem legit (I haven’t clicked on them just in case), but I’m confused as to why I’ve received this email having never cruised on a Carnival ship.

Have any other Princess cruisers received this email?

Update: delivery times

Posting this as a new post as Reddit app keeps freezing when I try to update my post from the other day - sorry!

After a couple follow up emails to my salesperson asking if he could at least confirm that my car was in production or had been allocated, he finally called me this evening to say that they now aren’t expecting it to arrive until mid June. I pressed him as to why and he rattled off a bunch of reasons including the increased demand resulting from the fuel price rises then he let slip that mid June was just another guestimate and they can’t guarantee that date either because there’s no allocation yet.

Long story short, I have asked that either he or his manager puts that in writing and expect that I will be cancelling my order with them and requesting my deposit back. Really disappointed by this experience and just glad that I am in a position to not be \*needing\* to replace my current car just yet.

UPDATE: Finally managed to get stock number, order status and ETA after escalating to the manager.
