Thought I had straight hair forever. Here's one of my favorite days since learning I don't! 🧡
Thick, Fine hair
shampoo Matrix - A Curl Can Dream, for curls and coils (darker yellow bottle)
conditioner Paul Mitchell - Extra-Body (purple)
leave-in conditioner - Camille Rose Curl Love Moisture Milk, Rice Milk & Macadamia Oil
Dry with Microfiber towel push/scrunch about 60-70% of the way. To get volume at the top, I use the towel to push the hair up and against my scalp to create a wave. Only scrunch from middle of strands and down or it ruins the root pattern
Air dry rest. Looked even better after I shook it out. Perfect ratio of volume vs definition. These pics are a bit too defined for my liking, still great to me tho 🧡
Routine
Start shower hot with light scalp massage to lift oils, dead skin. Don't pull fingers through, that will damage it
Switch to cool/cold water, then shampoo. Rinse with hot water
Back to cold water, brush while conditioner is in to get loose hair out. Let conditioner sit while washing my body with hot water lol. End with a cool water rinse to keep cuticles closed and less friction while styling (heat is energy which causes friction and dmg)
Headbang 2, 3 times in shower to lift wet hair off scalp! 🤘🏼 Make sure it stays soaking wet through the next steps. I'll use a towel at the ends of my hair for a split second to stop so many water drops
Wide tooth comb to get hair uniform and decide where to part and style. Started using a finetooth comb after the widetooth recently for a more defined part
Sidenote, >!benefits of a finetooth comb is when it separates so many strands, they adhere back together more uniform from evening out the pattern and creating more surface area for the strands to stick together. Finetooth actually gets you more defined results. Seems counter intuitive when thinking how it separates the strands, but that's how it works!!<
>!DON'T use finetooth if you're just starting your journey and your hair is damaged, you'll rip your split ends and tiny knots. I waited 8 months of babying my hair and learning to protect it before attempting!<
After it's styled I scrunch soaked hair with my hands a couple times while leaning forward a bit, so my hair frames my face instead of running on the sides, getting it into position for adding product
Rub my palms with a pea size of leave-in. Lightly rake fingers around my head to start with a bit of even distribution, but still leaving product on my hands for scrunching
Should hear actual squishing sounds while scrunching the leave-in!! Then perfekt the last bit of styling with light finger coiling. I don't try too much, just keep it kind of even without too much clumping unless I want like a triple helix xD
Microfiber steps into air dry. Shake hair out only after it's completelyyyy dry or all the work is ruined with a frizzy mess!
