Indiana flyfisher coming to visit

I'm from Northern Indiana and I'm looking for some good spots to fly fish in SW Michigan. I've fished the St. joe in South bend. I was thinking the Dowagiac in Niles maybe? I'm not sure what flies to bring or where any good points are to enter the river. ( I'll be wade fishing). Any advice on some good spots for a beginner to wade fish in SW Michigan?

I'm looking to stay in SW Berrien county as much as I can.

With the new FW changes, is there any reason not to?

It seems like they're really leaning into FW lately.

I've never done it. Would it be stupid to stick my main into FW? I don't want to screw myself by losing standing and not being able to travel through most of high-sec safely
