New Tank Owner

New Tank Owner

Hi everyone! I'm a new Opae Ula owner and I have a couple questions to make sure they are as happy and healthy as possible!

  1. There's some specs / film on the top of the water - is this normal? Or should I try and scoop it out?
  2. I read online it's okay to have plastic aquarium plants, but then I saw on this sub it's not - should I take them out?
  3. If I can't have the plants in there, is there anything else I can put in there that will bring some color into the tank? I feel like it looks so plain with just the ground and rocks :( I'd love to give them something with some color, or more hiding places!

Edit: I usually keep the lid on, but I had it off for the last 2 days to see if that was better for them.
Tank size is a little more than a half gallon, with 10 shrimp in it!

Bug help

This is an outdoor plant that came with a succulent assortment from TJ's. We've been getting a lot of rain lately, and while checking I noticed these bugs and white stuff. What kind of bugs are these and are they helpful or harmful? Is the white stuff from the bugs or from the plant? Just need to know if I need to hose her down and get some pest repellent, or if these are good bugs!

It's pretty close to being a full sun plant, at least 6 hours a day in gritty succulent mix.

Advice Needed!

Hi everyone! I bought some desert rose seeds and planted them, expecting a few of them to grow so I put them all in one pot - turns out 19 out of the 20 are sprouting! Should I immediately be moving them into their own planting growing pots? I had no idea they would all sprout, and I've never had desert roses before! I'm worried about moving them when they just started growing in the last week, but I don't want them to choke each other out either 😅

Pothos Advice

Hi everyone! This is my first and only pothos plant, and I got it last year around summertime from Trader Joe's. I have no idea what species it is, but I wanted to ask for advice to see if it seems healthy / happy! I usually have succulents, so this type of plant is new to me! I've noticed from the subreddit that they can become huge, but I'm not sure if she's grown a whole lot in the past 8 months.

She is indoors, and I only water her when the soil is dry. I have no idea what the purple plant is, or if I should look at transplanting that.

It came in soil, so I never tried putting it just in water. I'm open to any and all advice, I love the colors of this plant and I want it to thrive!

Monstera Help

Hi everyone! This is my first monstera, and I noticed recently it's got these tiny little dark spots on a leaf or two. It's an outside plant, but within a cage so I haven't had much of a problem with pests - but after looking through the subreddit I found out about thrips. Can anyone tell me if that's what's wrong with my monstera?

It is outdoors all day so it is in constant, tropical sunlight around 12 hours a day. I have been watering it as normal, every couple of days when the soil on the top layers is dry. I haven't had any problems with it until now, and I've noticed all the leaves point downward now and I don't know if that is related to the issue or not. I usually am more of an indoor plant person, but lately I've been having more outdoor plants due to the climate needed for the plants sold in my region.

Any help is appreciated! This plant is kept on an outdoor patio with other plants, so if it needs to be quarantined the sooner the better!
