Cottagecore kitchen refresh

Blue kitchen (before) green kitchen (after)! Maybe one day we will update the cabinet color too lol.

Any recommendations on upgrading the light fixtures? Thinking something floral for the light over the sink but not sure about the ceiling fan!

Before (blue) and after (green)

Kitchen refresh! New counters, sink/faucet, floor, countertops, paint. Need to tweak the under cabinet lighting a bit and swap the sign over the sink for one that says apothecary (because nerd) but am quite happy with the change!

Open to ideas on replacing the ceiling fan and light over the sink for more of a cottagecore/goblincore vibe, any suggestions?

Gutter downspout

This downspout is in the literal worst area. Well really, whoever poured the pathway put that in the worst spot lol. It comes out on a concrete pathway directly in front of a gate fence.

How can this best be fixed to not be a tripping hazard and also not pour water against the foundation?

Drill a hole and run it under? Move the fence up and get rid of that gate and the two slab pieces closest to the grass in the picture? (That wouldn't be ideal mostly because when we shovel the driveway in the winter we use that strip for the snow to go without damaging the fence). Open to all suggestions!!!

Really long dishwasher tubing

Hired a plumber to install a new dishwasher and this seems like a looooot of extra slack in the water intake and water drain tubing. Is this okay? Should I like hang any of these tubes on the cabinet wall or something?

Tile chipping/caulk

Had some new tile installed in front of my front door, noticed the edge piece they cut is all chipped. Also noticed they didn't use the color matched caulk provided, just grouted everything.

Should I ask them to remove the edge grout and caulk it or would this be alright to leave grouted where it meets the walls? And is there a way to fix this chipped piece or hide the chips, maybe with more grout, or some caulk? Thanks !

Custom stained glass pattern

I have been making a few stained glass pieces with the ultimate goal to make a large rectangular piece to prop up in a window ledge over my front door. I have a few AI mockups of general pattern ideas and would like to commission a real stained glass artist to actually make a useable pattern.

Looking for any recommendations if anyone here has used a particular artist or etsy shop to commission a pattern? It's going to be art nouveau/plant/snail/frog/whimsical goblincore-esque. Thank you!!

Baby puppy!!

Baby Zuko (Ryman type) came home yesterday! I forgot how tiny and fragile puppies can be. My last one was a stocky sturdy golden. Zuko is a dainty gentleman! Can't wait to see his personality.

Had some counters replaced, new counter breakfast bar has a gap since the half wall was not quite level. What would be the best trim style / cuts to hide this gap? Thanks!!

Zéphirine Drouhin training and pruning

Hello,

I planted a Zéphirine Drouhin climbing rose last year by my arbor. I would like to train them to climb up and know I have to try and make the cane horizontal.

I've never grown roses before. I know I have to try and train the cane horizontal and I should prune them. Any recommendations looking at these pictures? Thank you!

Granite counter gap after install

First time homeowner here! I had my laminate counters removed and replaced with granite on Monday, and am now noticing a pretty big gap in one area. This piece of the slab is only over two cabinets; half of the sink cabinet, and then a corner lazy Susan. I assume it's an issue with the two cabinets not being level because it starts off with no visible gap (first picture) and then goes to a huge one once it goes over the corner cabinet.

My main concern is I didn't know they weren't level because I had a counter on it already that had no gap, and the installers never mentioned anything; they also did demo of the older counter same day of installation of the new. I've reached out to the installer (granite company) because it looks like there's zero support or silicone or anything where the gap is and I don't want the stone to crack or break.

I had even bought black plastic prescored shims and provided them to the installers in case they had needed them. Do I just shim this myself? Is it normal that they would not have mentioned this?

Transition/threshold help

Hello,

Could anyone recommend a transition strip/threshold reducer (maybe post a link to purchase would be great!!)

I need it for tile to hardwood transition, the tile will be 1/4 inch higher than the hardwood.

Id like it to be a matching / close enough matching hardwood or engineered hardwood to a warm medium toned honey oak. please save me from google thank you!!

Support question

We are having a new granite counter installed Monday. My current breakfast bar has always been unlevel since we bought the house and is one of the main reasons we are replacing the counter. Installers came out Wednesday to do the template and mentioned I would need to buy supports/brackets for the new counter, but then asked me if I could have them installed before they come out?

I said unfortunately no, one of the services I am paying for is demo and removal of the current countertop, so I don't see how I could have them in and ready to roll with the old counter still on.

Additionally I am not really comfortable doing that anyway? I bought two types of brackets and sent them to the installer and am not even sure if these are the right types.

Do these brackets look correct? Is installing brackets something the counter installers typically do or the homeowner?

Underlayment question

Hello!

We are in the process of updating some tile floors in the kitchen, entryway, and sunroom of my house.

The kitchen grout is cracked in some areas; the other two areas seem fine. It seems the tile was previously laid directly on the plywood subfloor. Found that out when I removed the dishwasher and there were just random ungrouted unsealed tiles stacked haphazardly underneath it that just lifted out so that was exciting. Makes sense why there was some tenting in front of the dishwasher, that area of subfloor will need to be replaced cause it definitely got wet at some point (shocker). There is one perfectly straight line that goes completely across the kitchen of cracked grout in another area away from the dishwasher too.

I'd really like to not have the grout crack again in the kitchen. I was thinking of asking the floor installer to put down 1/4 cement board in all three areas, as he recommended that over ditra, and just add reducers/transitional strips to account for the height difference between new tile and old hardwood. I also purchased the sanded grout and matching sanded siliconized acrylic caulk for the areas where tile meets the hardwood/cabinets/drywall/whatever might expand or contract.

Do you agree cement board sounds best for these areas vs ditra? Anything else I should ask the installer? Thank you!

Looking for advice on backsplash location please!

Behind the sink I would like to have a small strip of granite going from the counter up to the breakfast bar which is the same granite.

For the backsplash, definitely putting it on the wall behind the stove, but not sure if I should continue it on the other wall to touch the granite backsplash (image 1) or leave that area as blank wall (image 2)? Or other options? I tried a mockup where it was all granite (image 3) and that looked pretty wonky.

To note, these are AI mockups and the colors and patterns and what not are definitely off. My cabinets are not that orange and those are not my outlets lol. The outlets I do have will be changed to black I think. But it gives the general idea!

Hey all, I am getting new countertops so will need to replace my sink. Going from a double basin to a single, undermount with an offset drain. Figured I will replace my dishwasher at the same time. I understand the PVC piping will need to be adjusted a bit. Having an outlet installed for the dishwasher under the sink by an electrician.

I got this quote provided by a plumber and the total cost is $2300 which seems excessive for installing a sink and dishwasher. I did respond that I would like the ball valve replacements removed from the quote as my current gate valves are a non issue, and while I may update them later, I don't need to do that right now.

What do you think, is this around what it should cost, or is this quote way too high for scope of work?

I am replacing my counters with a beautiful emerald pearl granite. I was thinking of removing the tiered breakfast bar and making it one large slab with an overhang.

Is the leveling/removal of the drywall section (and probably cutting studs?) holding up the breakfast bar portion something a counter installer would do? I already have an electrician to deal with/move the one electrical socket in the area.

Thanks!!
