ESP32 DEV MODULE
Got it finally to work on this small motherboard.
Received in the Netherlands with V4.
Approven again: device with swiss-knife tools.
Need to test in the field to receive telemetry from public-available channels in the Netherlands.
Software used:
Debian 13 Trixie
SDRPlusPlus (from github, compiled on the device)
any brilliant-minded people out there to discuss idea's on this familiar topic? Searching for new challanges to complete with radio signals. Intrested in civil technology but also sub-mil gov-tech. I'm from the Netherlandic Territory btw.
The manufacturer is Freenove. This module supports mini-jst battery connector, so I added a solid 3000mAh. It has 2 buttons on the back side, it also has a rgb-led at the same side. The touch is working with ILI**** library. It comes with several cables and a usb-c to usb-a. The components are soldered precisely and are visible with quality. I used the source code of XiaoZhi voice assistant (Chinese) from the official github repository. It performs well in recognizing speech and delivering natural voice in various options. Wanted to turn it into a device capable of making voice calls and send sms over LTE/4G. Maybe first I will try to modify the source code to use the frontier pro model of alphabet with voice chat API. Somehow I have to integrate the frontend to the backend to functionally run the heavy task on the more powerfull system and only send the processed end file to the small board. I have access to high-end compute power with a noble latency located in the Netherlands [Milan and Thüring GPU architecture]. Running the server apart makes the frontend light and less in power consumption. If you have experience in similiar projects; feel free to share your opinion. The user manual I used: [ https://docs.freenove.com/projects/fnk0104/en/latest/fnk0104/codes/xiaozhi/AI\_Voice\_Assistant\_Based\_on\_XiaoZhi\_AI.html ].
SDR++ first try on debian 13 trixie with v4 dipole antenna.
Recently bought from the net. So far the module connects successfully to mobile network but fails with code to send sms (could be operator related; needs to be solved quickly by my side). The design is completely nice for the eye and technically it operates as expected in wifi/bluetooth capabilities. The intention was to make a modular phone by-myself. I will connect it via the pins to the esp32 touch screen or let it connect to each other via wifi/bluetooth. Wanted a modular phone, the price went from 600-1000 euro's in the Netherlands/EU, so wanted to build it self. Will post the end-version of the prototype on this page for sure. Not to forget: the 3500mAh battery will add some serious juice because when in deep sleep mode; it barely consumes power. It will have call function with mic/speaker on-board. If you have experience in building a similiar prototype please feel free to say it. Whish you all a nice day!

At first, you need to purchase some hardware.
•Raspberry Pi 5 (minimal 2GB Ram)
•Display with HDMI input or old iPad/tablet (VNC)
•RTL-SDR BLOG V4 (prefer original hardware)
•JBL GO 3
•SD Card (minimal 8GB)
•Official Raspberry Pi 27W USB-C powersupply
Step 1: Install Raspberry Pi OS on sd-card.
Step 2: Insert the sd-card in Pi 5 and configure it.
Step 3: Paste the following commands in terminal.
sudo apt-get update && upgrade
sudo apt install rtl-sdr gqrx-sdr -y
sudo reboot
Step 4: If using an iPad/tablet with VNC, you first need to go to "sudo raspi-config" & enable VNC server in "interface settings".
Step 5: Install the antenna delivered with the V4.
Step 6: After booting into the installed desktop GUI,
Type: "gqrx" in terminal.
Step 6: When you don't know how to use gqrx, try watching youtube-video's on how to use it properly.
PS: I am using an iPad mini with VNC 128 AES encrypted software. Choose "AM" demodulator for shortwave and WFM (stereo) for FM (ranging from 87.5Mhz to 108Mhz. The Pi 5 is capable of Bluetooth connection with JBL GO 3 for audio-output. Enable RDS if you want to see info about the FM station and radio-controlled time.
