My 9 year old likes to play with RC cars in the back yard. Grass is cut at around 4 - 4.5 inches. The stuff we buy from toy departments are OK but I think for the summer I would like to get him something a little more serious. He likes to make ramps for jumps and go over terrain.

I do not know anything about the hobby but want to support his interests, so I hope I came to the right place for advice. I need something sturdy that won’t require a lot of fixing (although if it’s a model that has youtube coverage of repairs then I should be fine). I don’t want to spend a lot but I also know it will be more than $40-$60 Walmart quality. Good battery life that is rechargeable would be preferred.

Since his birthday is coming i am willing to spend more and get into it with him - maybe $250 total max?

I love the game and wish I had more time to play. With that said I can still squeeze around 5-7 races per day. I just finished 3 playlists and got myself a 911 2.7 street 1 car and I am getting better at controlling it. What is the progression that people go through?

I just go to any race and change it to Custom Street 1 and race my 911. Once I feel good with controlling it and have enough money I will buy street 2 and do custom with that.

Am I missing a lot of fun by doing it that way? Any other events I should be considering? I know there is Main Stage but I don’t get it, or Summits but I will need a lot of cars for those, as not all have loaners. Can someone explain?

Are there recommended cars to new players? Some that you can stick with for a longer haul? As a parent I will not have time to grind and master every vehicle so I am looking for 1 or 2 recommendations for each category. I would like them to be good for beginners/intermediates but still hold their own in races - something I can practice and race with and not feel like I have invested my limited time i to something that is outclassed by everyone else. Please recommend some. I also watched one of the guide videos that stated that there are few pro settings that make every car better especially when you are learning before getting deep into customization. Is that true?

I main Hellraiser with Combat Shotgun and Thumper - would you recommend Incendiary Grenades for Thumper? It’s 400 blue currency and I am poor so just got enough.
