Two months ago, I (F41) had a huge fight with my sister because of her asshole boyfriend. During the argument, she broke down and screamed that she hated me.
For context, my sister is 14 years younger than me. I helped raise her and sacrificed a large part of my teenage years, and other parts of my life, to look after her and help her become the person she is today.
Today is her birthday. She called me sounding happy and pointed out that I had not sent her our traditional midnight birthday message. I told her, “You said you hated me. What was I supposed to do?”
She replied with " Sorry, " sounding more like “Oops, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it.” She did not really ask for forgiveness or acknowledge how deeply it had hurt me. Just like: Get over with it.
I told her, “I have never told you that I hated you or that I didn’t love you. NEVER.”
This was also the second time she had said it. The first time, I was severely depressed, the kind of depression where I was glued to my bed in a dark room. I told her I would not be spending Christmas with her, and she responded by saying that she hated me, I was selfish, and other things that didn't help at the time. I forgave her, even though she didn't say she was sorry (Oops).
During today’s conversation, she said that I had also said hurtful things to her. I replied, “I told you the truth about things that were happening. I never told you that I hated you. You broke something between us, and I don’t know whether we will ever fully recover from it. I can't fathom how.”
She waited two months, and she has not tried to contact me or repair the relationship. Then, today, on her birthday, she called and made me feel guilty for not sending the usual message, as if it is also my fault. I felt she was using her birthday like blackmail to pin me down to accept.
Am I wrong, am I the asshole, for keeping my distance and not wishing her a happy birthday at midnight? I'm really sad.
As the title says. Over the last two days, my followers haven't moved, but my favourites have gone up. It's not much, it's four favourites in 24/36 hours while followers 81 don't move.
This is the first time I have seen this behaviour.
The novel has 24 days if this helps.
[tag should be help/question]
I woke up this morning with two notifications on my novel, which made me very happy. I read the new comments, and they were totally normal: one was “I love it!” and the other was “TYFTC.”
What made me curious was that one of the comments was left mid-chapter. Why is it weird? Although I'm a very small author, my Royal Road readers have usually been binge-readers since I joined, so I am more used to people commenting after reading a larger chunk. Because of that, I checked the reader’s profile.
And now I am not sure if I am overthinking it or if it looks a little fishy fish.
Things I noticed:
So now I am torn. On one hand, this could just be a new reader who found my work and "loved it".
On the other hand, the brand-new account plus immediately favouriting all my novels and a connected friend’s novel gives me that “hmm…” disappointing feeling. I know there are service/art/promo scam accounts that start by acting like enthusiastic readers before messaging authors with offers, which makes me feel very offended since I do my own art.
So, what do you think? Am I being too suspicious, or does this pattern look odd to you too?
EDIT: They returned in the meantime with a comment and, just out of curiosity, rechecked their profile, and they favourited a couple more novels, no strings attached, and made one review that was wholesome about the novel. Seems I was too suspicious, and yay, I have a fan! 🌈🌈🌈
Like the title says, would you click? Yay, Nay or Meh.
EDIT with last version:
EDIT: Thank you all for the feedback, and I know I didn't reply to everyone, but I did read each comment. And you are all right, I was trying to do something different from what I used to do. And believe me or not, you guys actually gave me an awesome idea, not sure if you want me to share it or not. However, several of you asked "what makes your isekai different" and also the feedback that I had from what they liked the most about the story (beta-readers). So I decided to change the cover and the ad and actually make a 2-in-1.
Once more, thank you all.
Hi Everyone, I have a question about the chapter-building format. I have a mystery in the story (not litrpg or Gamelit; the genre is completely different), but around chapter 8, my characters have numbers over their heads that change slightly throughout the story.
These numbers are a huge clue to "what is going on?"
Should I make a tiny table keeping record of the numbers like an Easter egg on top of each chapter, without giving any explanation (it will be explained later, of course)
It would look something like this:
Of course, this would need formatting. The numbers are not level-ups; they are not a countdown, but they are a measurement.
Hi Everyone,
I'm looking for beta reader(s) for the first ARC of my novel. It's roughly 13K words, in five chapters.
What I want is something simple:
- Would you continue reading?
-If not, where did you stop and why?
This is a simple read, in summary, I just want a yay, nay or meh.
If you want to help, DM me and I’ll send you the Google Doc link.
Thank you :)
