Return Advice

After 9 years of selling on Mercari, I have my first EVER return. Mercari sided with the buyer and supposedly the buyer is to return the item to me.

I have a whole bunch of issues with this: how do I know it’s the item they actually purchased? How do I know they didn’t swap it for something they had? Etc…

What is your advice? Just cut my loses when the item makes it back? I have no faith in the return to try and relist it.

For context: it’s a fragrance.

Sold a fragrance a month ago. Yes, early April. Buyer rated immediately upon receiving. Life went on. Received the following message 5 days ago. I was on vacation and didn’t respond immediately. Saw the question mark comment.
