Reasonable offer amount?

The item is listed for $35 and the description says “price is relatively firm but open to reasonable offers” so what would a reasonable offer be? It’s not free shipping and it’s a discontinued scent by a brand I really like. I think it’s the only one listed currently but some have sold recently for 26-29 dollars but one has sold for $55 but not recently. Thank you for your help

Mercari had an item out of stock and did not refund me despite never receiving it

I bought an item from Mercari which was fulfilled by BEENOS, for items based in Japan. After paying, it said the item wasn’t available anymore. Instead of giving a refund, they only offered credit despite talking to customer support. I don’t use Mercari often, so a credit is useless to me. Just posting as a warning since it’s ridiculous they don’t check listings are in stock and refuse to give refunds.

The audacity is real!

Here's someone selling a bond no 9 fragrance for a low price. And look, they have a receipt to verify purchase. Wow!

Only problem is Sephora hasn't carried the bond no 9 brand since the 2010s and certainly wasn't selling this frag in February 2026.

Why are people such horrible liars and scammers? This honestly infuriates me

Notifications about items I’ve only viewed

Forgive me if this has been talked about before, I searched and didn’t really see anything.
But, I am SO tired of getting notifications (ex. 86% off | Ending Soon ⏰) about items that I did NOT even like, just something that I viewed. Sometimes it’s so much that I am just having to block the seller because I’m tired of getting a notification every single day that they’ve dropped the price on their item!! I mean, damn, sometimes it’s just something I accidentally viewed when searching, why would want notifications about it for the rest of time? 🤣

I’ve been on Mercari since 2015, notifications are pretty glitchy, and I have looked through Settings and never figured out a way to get rid of this.

Sellers can be so disappointing

Just a few days ago, I received a $300 order which included P Louise eyeshadow pallets + multiple very very expensive brands. As well as Versace full-size perfumes plus other perfumes that were in two separate boxes both taped one on top of each other. I thought it was smart on her behalf, but when I opened the one with the eyeshadow pallets there were just perfume bottles thrown in there as well. also a small dabber which you just had to pull off the top for it to open. That was not taped down and spilled all over eyeshadow palette covers as well as a plastic, and cardboard completely ate away at the plastic, didn’t know that this could happen

Instead of bubble, wrapping everything which she said she would do and this is why she charged me over $30 for shipping… what she did was wrap everything in royal blue (very thin wrapping paper material) This was on top of a bunch of plastic and glass, perfume bottles, and P Louise lip masks - the blue wrapping paper literally got stuck to it like glue. It’s almost impossible to scrape off. Oil and alcohol mixture, just kind of sunk into all the cardboard.

<<<<<<Any tips you guys? And any tips on how to get this Blue wrapping paper that is stuck on the glass off? It’s also stuck on a few perfume bottles>>>>>>
Just threw a few pictures

Afterward, I asked if there was anything that she would be willing to do to make up for all the damage products, which were at least half the package. These were Mother’s Day gifts and also gifts for my family.

I let her know that I really didn’t prefer to leave her a bad review/honest review! There was no exaggerating what happened. I was gonna give her a chance to make up for the situation in any way shape or form. She then blamed Usps for Miss handling the package, told me there was nothing she would be “willing “to do for me and that it was not her problem at the end of the day no matter what.

proceeded to block me after being extremely rude and me just trying to make it right on her end when I could’ve been bitching her out.

I actually ended up cleaning out the rest of her shop inventory and left her completely sold out of everything.

There were multiple pallets, but here’s a couple, paired in with the lip masks and the infamous royal blue paper that is now glued on, any tips on how to get this off?

Ppl stink 💩

shipping

i bought out a ton of things from this sellers shop, they didn't ship anything for i wanna say two weeks?? they were rly responsive during the buying process however after that it was radio silence. mecari said if there was no word like two days from now I could just automatically submit a refund. I never escalated and figured i'd do that when the time came. They ended up shipping it just in time today, if all the items come fine would you still dock a star or two for the shipping issues? i'm honestly not rly upset since i'd just get my money back if they didn't ship it and it's not like these are hard to find items but i'm not sure if it's like a public duty thing almost to atleast let ppl know they're gonna be waiting over two weeks for an order with no word/response

Seller cancelled my order for a higher pricing offer

I know situations like these is completely fair game in mercari but it still hurts everytime it happens to me😭 for brief context: yesterday (05/19), I had purchased a fairly rare merchandise that is hard to find for a decent price from a visual novel I love, and I was so so happy to purchase the listing ~8 minutes after it was posted. I had to buy it immediately because I knew it would be bought quickly by others too.

Then not even about 10 mins later, the seller cancelled and this was the reason. Now, I am FULLY aware that mercari allows this, but man, this is the second time this happened to me and it still is so heartbreaking😭 I just honestly couldnt reply properly afterward, I had to block the seller cause frankly, I was driven by emotions after I recieved this message.

I honestly just wished these two sellers whom i had experienced this situation from, had communicated with me before rashly cancelling my order because I am pretty sure I could have worked something out, hell, if necessary, I would even up my payment within reason to keep the purchase (im desperate, okay💔).

But yeah, whatever

Edit: I am also kind of curious though, on what is the perspective of the OTHER buyer, the ones who offer higher prices to sellers in exchange for cancelling on the first buyer. Like genuinely, cus some of yall strike a nerve im ngl💔

Account Limited & Pending Closure

I recently made my account yesterday and also bought something. Today, I received this notice that I violated ToS? I’m not even a seller, but I’m assuming this is just an automatic message or whatever.

Anyway, the only thing I could think of that would cause this is buying an item and having it shipped to another address because that’s the only thing I’ve done. I intended to have the item shipped to a friend as a gift and when I realized today that it may have been the thing to cause an issue, Mercari had set my friend’s address as my default even when I hadn’t set it to that, therefore alerting fraud for my card address not matching my default address and name??

Is there no hope in getting my account back and will my order still be shipped?

I laughed a little.

Anyone who has been selling anything for any amount of time knows darn well tracking is and always has had a mind of its own.

Keep in mind I work in a plant where I deal with ups and fed ex dropping off packages every day. The package was handed directly to the ups driver this morning, and has updated.

Think I may wash my hands with mecari after this one. 🤔

Update: buyer requested return citing inauthentic

Update on my post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Mercari/s/4QnXM6ReSN

I got the return and filmed it, the perfume itself doesn't seem to be switched (I think) but the base was definitely either not the base I sent it out with or was severely dirtied before being returned. There was a strange orange liquid inside, and the bottom was much dirtier than the brand new one I sent out (which was spotless).

I'm wondering if she bought my perfume just to switch out the base and return the perfume, but since the perfume itself doesn't seem to be fake, should I still try to open a ticket with Mercari? I don't have photos of what the base looked like before, so I think it might fuck up my chances of proving it wasn't like this when I sent it out.

Buyer requested a refund and claims the packs were resealed

I’m not sure what to do about this. I’ve heard a lot of stories of Mercari siding with the buyer even if it isn’t right. I know the packs weren’t resealed (I made sure to check after buying them originally) and it’s really upsetting to have this happen. The buyer* didn’t know what they were buying and is now claiming they were resealed. Any tips?
The package was on hold for about 3 weeks before this since the buyer was “out of town”. Even though they were still rating other sellers and listing their own items.
Also I know I probably didn’t handle this the best but I didn’t really know what to say to them. Sorry

Are sellers penalized for cancellations requested by the buyer?

I just did a cancellation for the first time and got this notice, but I as the seller was not the one who initiated the cancellation. The buyer was.

Sale was made at about 9am this morning. I boxed up the items and was about to walk out the door to drop it at the post office shortly after 1pm when I looked at my Mercari messages and saw the buyer had just minutes previously sent a message asking if they could cancel the order because they’d just been told someone was going to gift it to them. A little annoying but not the end of the world. Since I hadn’t shipped it yet I told them I’d accept a cancellation request if they sent it, thinking I didn’t want to initiate it myself and risk being penalized, but I got this message anyway.

“We discourage cancellations…high cancellation rates will appear publicly on sellers profiles.” ????? Why would a buyer-initiated cancellation appear on my profile and not theirs? I could have been an a**hole and pretended I didn’t see their message until after I shipped it, but cancelling it was a very easy fix and the nice thing to do.

Is Mercari penalizing sellers for buyer-initiated cancellations too or do you think this is just standard notice that goes out the first time any cancellation happens while only penalizing seller-initiated ones?

Do NOT sell on Mercari

I have been with Mercari since 2016. I was very upset with Mercari this time. My package was successfully shipped using Mercari provided shipping label and was successfully delivered via USPS to the buyer. Mercari cancelled the transaction unilaterally without providing a clear explanation and only reimburse me $200 which is significantly less than what I supposed to be paid. The reason they said is lost in transit. I provided the USPS tracking status and the videos I documented myself packaging and shipping the package. Mercari ignored all the supporting info and evidence I provided and insisted I already received the maximum reimbursement of lost in transit. I fulfilled all seller obligation by properly packing, shipping and delivering the item. But I have to take the financial loss?!! because I am selling on Mercari. Now the buyer got the item and $200 compensation and I didn’t even make my money back.

Update: Yesterday and today, back and forth between USPS and Mercari. USPS insists the package was successfully delivered and says the tracking confirmation is the only official documentation they can provide. Mercari, however, claims USPS privately told them the package was possible “misdelivered” or “lost in transit”, different agent has different answer, but they refuse to provide any case number, written determination, or proof because it’s confidential. Unless I could provide any other evidence or documentation from USPS, Mercari won’t change their decision. There is no way to win. I filed BBB and FTC. USPS told me I could file to USPIS too. I will exit Mercari. Their customer service is terrible. The supervisor cut off my call because she couldn’t answer my questions.

What's the secret to get sales on Mercari today?

I sold a lot prior to the pandemic and then a lot during due to having extra time for listing. That extra income when I didn't know if I'd get back to work was great. Around when they implemented the $600 limit for taxes I did fill out that form, but I stopped because I was running out of stuff to sell. I've recently made some attempts to start up again. I have a large collection of Funko Pop's, Star Wars black series action figures, and some miscellaneous trading cards + trading card storage.

I listed a lot of the Funko Pop's to start. They never got views nor showed up in the search listing's. I tried reaching out to customer service to figure out what was up with my listing's not showing up, but Mercari seems to make it impossible to contact them outside of the help topics they offer. Eventually I managed to get someone, but they didn't understand what I was talking about, so that never went anywhere.

There were a few listings that did get noticed, but it was less than 10 views, would get a like or two, but they likers never responded to offers and sales and the likers were empty accounts too so I am guessing bots or window shoppers.

I set all my Funko Pop's to $15 and offered free shipping... Nothing.

I look at Sold listing's for Funko's and people seem to be willing to pay for shipping. So I lowered the price and the shipping came out to around $5 (at least back when that was a special offer). Still got nothing.

I just deleted everything. I plan on taking new pictures, but at this point I am not sure what it takes anymore. It was easier to sell years ago that's for sure.

What can I do? What are the tips and tricks for 2026?

Cancelation policys

Genuinely confused on this issue, had stuff happen and was not able to ship within the three days. My fault my problem, nothing to do with the seller. I have always stated when letting people know if i am running behind that they are free to cancel if they dont want to wait, etc. I dont cancel just because always thought it was rude to jsut cancel without them requesting too. If that makes sense, had someone today tell me they were reporting me to mecari because they saw the scam i was running, because if i let them cancel it doesnt show or something? I havent the slightest. Maybe I am just oblivious and didnt realize there was a difference? Not even sure how it would be a scam.

Someone explain pleasse. 🤣

Glitch or am i shadowbanned?

I've listed 2 new items and saw it wasn't getting any traction even after days of it being listed. I've also noticed it won't show up on any of the tags I've used nor on my own page. Im not sure what's going on 😭

$1,000 earned milestone achieved.

I only sell cards, so earning 1k in 10 listings is pretty awesome to me. My biggest sale was a mewtwo pokemon card for about $400.

Emails

Help! I am getting emails from people interested in my listings. I do not want strangers knowing my email address. It seems that Mercari doesn't have live support.

Playing the game

I may have uncovered the secret of how to get more listings on the Deals page. I sell mostly new children’s clothes, so there is not a huge profit margin. I noticed that the listings highlighted on the Deals page have been significantly discounted. My solution - I price each listing at retail price, then immediately edit the listing to 50-70% of that price and I still have room to promote. This is no different than most retail store tags. My listings now show up on the deals page and my sales have increased.

I’m always open to other ideas and/or suggestions.
