People's audacity on this app just grows bolder everyday. Let's be honest here you're not asking this question out of genuine curiosity, you're mad that I priced a highly sought after item for what it's worth.

Why not send an offer instead? That's obviously a lot less rude and the worst I can do is not accept it, but at least you would have more of a chance than bluntly asking this sort of question that immediately puts you on my "weary buyer" list.

I just needed to rant about this because I occasionally get these messages and it's almost always from people who are window shoppers anyways and just want to be a bully about prices.

(prices blocked out for privacy just in case).

What did I do wrong?

I purchased a few jigsaw puzzles this morning from four different sellers. I usually don’t pay much attention to who the seller is, I just add the puzzles I want to my cart and check out.

One of my purchases included two puzzles from the same seller. She immediately messaged me, canceled the order, and I realized after her message that buying two items together was apparently considered a bundle. I went back and purchased the two puzzles separately, thinking that was the issue because that’s what she called out as a concern. I also only ever buy on Mercari, never sell and I am not sure what the free shipping impacts are to her as the seller.

She canceled both orders again and then blocked me.
Did I do something wrong? The only thing I can think of is that I didn’t realize buying two items from the same seller in one transaction counted as a bundle. Every other bundled purchase I’ve made has been explicitly advertised as a bundle with a discount, so I didn’t know there was any etiquette around it.

I’m genuinely just trying to understand if I missed an unwritten Mercari rule or if this was just an unusual seller.

Chargeback

Does anyone know what the odds would be in me wining a chargeback against Mercari?
I understand my account will likely be closed but atp I don’t even care the customer service has been horrendous. I received a product that reeeked of cigarettes. I wanted to return the item, they are denying even tho the seller did admit to there being a smell. Was an expensive item so I’m at a lost and don’t know what to do😔

mercari favoring buyers

idk if anyone has been experiencing this but sometimes whenever a buyer asks mercari support for a refund, mercari ends up giving back the funds to the buyer but do not give the seller the money back😭😭 whats even worse is mercari does this without letting the seller know… like okay i’ll just lose my money AND my item unknowingly 🫠 i dont mind that much for now because i’ve only lost a couple dollars. im also a little confused because i’ve gotten my money back before as a seller, but does this happen to anyone else?

Has anyone else gotten reviews saying their items smell like smoke but you don’t smoke?

I have a 5.0 rating with 94 5 star reviews but someone recently left a 1 star review saying it smelled like smoke. I’ve been getting some complaints saying 2 of my items smelled like smoke and I’m very confused because there has been no smoke around them whatsoever. Has anyone else has this happen? Is it possible the delivery drivers could have been smoking in their vehicles? If so, how do i report this? I tried to tell the one person I don’t smoke and there wasn’t smoke around their package on my end, they just got very angry and didn’t believe me. :( it was a baby item and even if i did smoke, i would never do it around baby clothes or items. thanks in advance!

How paranoid do I need to be?

I purchased a shirt. The seller shipped me a shirt that was not what I’d purchased. Mercari approved the return and sent me a label.

Do I need to video or otherwise document the whole packing and shipping process? I don’t have any reason to be concerned that the seller would say that I sent back trash or something. We haven’t had any interaction.

I just want to return the item that is not what I purchased, get my refund, and move on. Then I see posts here about all kinds of drama regarding refunds, and wonder if I should be covering myself somehow. Is falsely claiming that I didn’t send back the item the worst thing the seller could do?

Limited Interactions

I am selling an item on Mercari and I have an offer on the item. I went to accept the offer but I get a pop up that says the buyer has limited the interactions with me. I cannot message her either to let her know. What is going on? I don’t want her to think I just ghosted her and never responded to the offer.

Conflicting shipping rules.

I have not yet shipped this bundled package (It is less than a ten-dollar sale with the buyer paying for shipping). I have entered the correct dimensions:
(28 x 8 x 3 in.) Mercari says: "Stay within these dimensions to avoid extra postage."
I chose to ship via UPS Ground Saver from the drop-down list (5 lb).
The bundled package weighs less than 5 lbs.

UPS shipping Instructions indicate that the length may not exceed 17" . My item is 28" long.

Will UPS accept my package, and will I be charged for extra postage?

Why aren’t more sellers cross-posting on depop?

I’ve been doing so much buying (and selling) since the free shipping on depop started. I haven’t bought on Mercari in months (and my shop is as good as dead I get maybe one ljke a month and no offers no biggie but a fact) because the prices for things I’m seeking just aren’t worth it with shipping tacked on and I feel bad making offers on already low list prices bc I know Mercari fees will eat you up. I’ve looked so many times on other apps for the same items I see on Mercari but it’s like nobody cross posts😭 and I can’t message any sellers to ask them to do so bc of the TOS so I just haven’t bought any of my likes.

I’m only an occasional seller but are there reasons that people stick to Mercari? Are there better protections for sellers? I’ve sold just about everywhere at this point but I’ve luckily had 99% good experiences all around so I’ve never really compared side by side I just search around and land where the best deals and most money earned is. Curious how others are feeling lately

Genuine question as a seller

Was i wrong for approaching the situation this way?? They went out of their way to message me on another account trying to makeup a lil story. i could tell it was the same person because they had the SAME listings and background. They didn’t even try to hide it lol. I posted a rare bag that has since been discontinued for 45 bucks when it typically goes for 100+

How do you handle the "I sold it on one app but forgot to remove it from another" nightmare?

Curious what people are doing here. I sold a pair of shoes on Mercari yesterday, forgot to pull the Poshmark listing, someone bought it there this morning, and now I'm giving a refund + apology + probably a bad review.

This has happened to me three times now. I've tried:

Setting phone reminders (I ignore them)

Building a spreadsheet (I forget to update it)

A specific tool a friend recommended (canceled the trial, it was clunky)

Am I the only one bad at this? What's your system? Bonus points if it doesn't involve constantly staring at 4 apps.

Do buyers usually behave this way?

Sends in a 152 offer on a 190$ item, I counter 170 they don’t accept for a whole day and someone buys at full price and they get upset that I didn’t hold.

Mercari let a scammer win

I sold a Funko pop. The item was in perfect condition and the moment it arrived the buyer claimed it was damaged and asked for a refund. I could tell immediately it was not the same pop from the photos and told Mercari but they allowed a return. I received the pop and what do you know, it’s not the same pop. Yes it was the same Funko but there some clear differences.

First it was in a different pop protector, I sent mine in a pop shield it came back in a damaged cheaper one

Secondly, the sticker placement seemed different, I looked and realized the flicked sticker and convention sticker are slightly different.

Thirdly there is a clear red/brown dot on the side

I looked at the buyers most recent review and noticed most recent review from a seller, clicked on it and they also sold the same Funko in a bundle. I took a closer look and lone behold, there red dot is on that pop and the stickers match perfectly. Both tilted and closer the bottom of the box.

I provided all this clearly in messages disputing the return. I was told “thank you for all the information we are reviewing it”

This morning I woke up to “ I didn’t provide enough evidence and they will proceed with my refund for the buyer”

I plan on calling them directly on Monday, but I’m not holding my breath.

1-2 photos are my listing photos

3-4 are what I received back

5-7 are the other sellers listing

Did they really think that would work?

I want to start off by saying I dont mind offers (i usually decline them but shoot your shot) and i dont put "no offers" in my bio or description. But I HATE when people try this. It feels so rude to the seller. I really feel like mercari should have a minimum offer threshold. For context this is two items, one price is at $7 and one at $8 so by offering $8 you are just asking for a free item. How is that not rude/crazy. I usually just decline and block because these kinds of buyers are usually a headache. But I was feeling a little rebellious today~ I hope they feel embarrassed.

Also this was a recently made account without reviews so hopefully i stopped this behavior right at the start and they wont try this on others. What do you guys think of these kinds of offers? And do you reply, decline, accept, counter, or block?

Does anyone know why I can’t buy this or add it to cart?

I don’t think I’m blocked because I can still see it and send messages

u/Pugking69 — 1 day ago

This is probably a dumb question. 😭

I have a few plushies I want to sell and I was wondering where you get boxes to put the items you’re sending in? Do you go to stores and ask for boxes? I’m very new to this. Also, do you need like a special machine to print out labels and stuff to send the items?

Thank you! 😊

Had personal information stolen from Mercari

So I had a bunch of perfume sample and perfumes that I did not use a someone on Reddit suggested I sell them on mercari.

While creating an account it asked for a picture of a valid state issued ID and a current picture of myself to verify my identity, I did and was eventually approved. I posted several items and made sales, received funds, was rated by buyers.

However two months later I saw a withdrawal from my personal bank account for two charges worth $890 I disputed the charges ($400 & $490) with my bank and 3 months later they rejected my claim and refused to compensate me for the stolen funds because they concluded that I had authorized the transaction I told them I had not and they told me I had purchased cryptocurrency through an app called metalpay I told them that was wrong and escalated the claim to their executive fraud department. A week later and I was told that they concluded that the transaction had been authorized by me (I had NOT) they said they would send me a report of their investigation.

I received the report and the pictures I uploaded to mercari to verify my identity were the same pictures used to create the cryptocurrency account along with my bank card that I input when creating the account.

I’ve contacted all 3 merchants and metalpay terminated the account, my bank said they would NOT be reimbursing me the stolen funds because they concluded it was me (AGAIN IT WAS NOT) and all mercari did was remove my verification badge from my profile and have limited access to the app’s features.

Has anyone found themselves in these unfortunate circumstances or does anyone know what I could possibly do?

Curionocture

My mother owns this online shop.

She constantly makes fun of the people that order her stuff calling them "loonies" and "retards". She seemed to take great pride in how she described "picking shit up off the ground and selling it to people". This disturbs me so much. I love my mother and I don't understand why she does this. She had me teach her how to use AI to generate her pictures and even uses it to actively respond to people who email her with REAL problems so she sounds legit and professional.

I really wish she wasn't like this. I used to love playing with my tarot cards and carrying potions but she literally berates me and tells me "are you one of these stupid people?" It's insane..I am deeply sorry to the people that go to her for help and I hope that despite knowing who she really is now that you don't lose hope in the occult.

My mother is sick and I was taken away as a child when she was convicted of abusing my little brother so I believe that it's her mental illness that causes her to be this way. I really hope she finds help but to the people that think her email responses are the real her I'm sorry to disappoint you. She believes only in science and considers her occult shop her greatest hustle, and I don't believe someone like that should be able to then lie to people and sell them things she literally packs herself and laughs about it as she sends it, claiming that she can't believe people actually buy her products. It's unbelievable :(.

Package got transferred and lost

I’ve been trying to have this fixed for over a month. The package got transferred from UPS to USPS and then delayed for a postage assessment. Mercari is not helpful at all in finding a solution, and says they won’t cover me but will cover the buyer. Even though on the shipping page it says they will cover me up to $200.
