I’ve just finished the series…
Oh. My. God.
I’ve started watching this series in such a random way - I’ve scrolled through IMDb and it was listed as one of the best shows ever, and also I’ve already had some memory of its existence, so I gave it a shot.
I was so not wrong.
There are no words to describe how entertaining it has been for me - the atmosphere of the show with its unique, interesting and playful humor have really brighten up my days.
The endless paragraphs by various characters with such diabolical, innovative ways to put down somebody are something I’ll continue to watch on the internet constantly (and use in my real life as well).
However, what struck me the most was how well written some of the characters were.
This show was never meant to be taken seriously in that way, at least in my opinion, but there are some hidden gems that I’ve noticed (and truly liked) along the way.
Jonah, as a character, was obviously envisioned by someone who truly understands that type of personality - somebody who’s constantly put down/neglected by others, a guy who no one takes seriously, basically a “loser/social outcast” who desperately wants to achieve something. From time to time, I was actually quite touched by some of those scenes, because it truly reminds you what it’s like to be in that position.
And Selina, oh Selina… During the “Chicklet” episode, I think this show got as close as possible to something a bit more serious. When she discovers the truth about her dad, when she remembers how much she used to idolize him while destroying the barn… I was actually quite touched by that emotional outbreak from her. For a second, I forgot what show I was watching.
(Also, Gary leaving a lipstick on Selina’s casket in the last episode…)
“Camp David”, as I already wrote in another post, is my favorite episode of any show I’ve ever watched.
It’s a great example of how a comedy show should approach itself, and I can’t wait to watch it again.
All in all, an incredible show with great writing, great humor and great actors.
