IsItBullshit: Kane Tanaka — the second oldest person ever, who died aged 119 in 2022 — had pancreatic cancer in the 1940s?

I find this completely absurd. Even today, pancreatic cancer is almost always a death sentence (because it’s usually caught late).

This person was diagnosed in the 1940s, when cancer treatment was archaic compared to what we have today, and managed to survive? And then live another 70+ years? Becoming the second oldest person EVER as a cancer survivor?

Would love if someone had some info on this.

Jasper the raccoon? What the hell?

Watching this season one episode now. Laura is stupid as hell. Mary too.

The dog and Jasper have been beefing the entire episode. And yet when Laura goes to feed Jasper, the absolute GENIUS Ingalls sisters decide to … bring the dog into the barn? Seriously, is it their first day on earth?

Then the fight happens and Jasper bites Laura and the dog. Woah, what a shock! Don’t feel bad for Laura at all — stupid tax, right there (and yes I know she’s a kid, but she should know better).

Laura’s sheer idiocy combined with the clear animal cruelty used to film this episode, my blood has never boiled more watching television. Never. What a fucking idiot.

And of course she wants to keep the goddamn raccoon anyway. Not endearing at all. Just stupid, stupid, stupid. LAURA should’ve been the one put in a cage after this, she clearly is too stupid to function without constant supervision.

Paulie telling Johnny about the joke

Honestly, if I was Tony or Ralph, I don’t think I would suspect Paulie as much as they did (even though, of course, it was indeed him).

Paulie’s in the slammer. What are the odds that Little Paulie visited him in jail and told him about the joke, verbatim? Yeah, these guys yap worse than six barbers, but it’s not often that you see people gossip by saying “Here’s a joke that X told at the gathering!” Usually gossip is more personal info.

So yeah, if I was Tony I’d find it a little incredulous that Paulie was the one who yapped. My suspicions would rest on the people who actually attended the dinner. And if I was Paulie getting interrogated by Tony about it on the boat, I’d just say “I was in jail, of course it wasn’t me.”

That extra layer of doubt is probably a factor in Tony deciding to spare Paulie. Anyways, I absolutely love how what appeared to be a throwaway line at the dinner became such a crucial plot point.

Crucial context in "The Knight in White Satin Armor" (S2E12).

After Janice kills Richie, Tony comes back home and sits down on the couch with Carmela. We get the following dialogue - Carm telling Tony she's gonna go on a trip to Italy with Ro:

"Tony: What are people gonna say, you take off for three weeks?

Carmela: You're gonna have to chauffeur AJ around to his dentist and whatnot. And you've got to find a tennis clinic for Meadow to join. Because if I have to do it, Tony, I just might commit suicide."

Then Carmela gets up and walks out. If you watch closely in this scene, you'll notice that Carmela's wearing red pants. Look even closer and you'll realize she has a pair of big, fat, juicy butt cheeks.

The way they bounce up and down with each step is delectable, like two fresh cantaloupes just waiting to be cracked opened. I would do some heinous things to Carmela and her big fat "pudgy walshes", Jesus Christ. Round gelatinous bags of pleasure. Could you imagine those things jiggling against your thighs as you crack her from behind? Pure wagon, pure badonkadonk.

Here’s a trailer that ran ahead of season 4. Is it me, or does it kind of make you cringe?

https://youtu.be/lmC4c68HM54?si=eZnOGJVpkbAZQVos

Not that I dislike season 4 or anything. Obviously it’s amazing. But to see a show as unique, offbeat, and layered as The Sopranos reduced into a generic action trailer is kind of weird. Definitely meant to appeal to the so-called “hits and tits” crowd.

Phil Would’ve Been Terrified If He Knew Tony Killed Christopher

Something I’ve never seen discussed from season 6 (and let’s be honest, as a sub we need to find new things to talk about):

After Christopher dies, Phil gives Tony his condolences. The scene plays out normally because everyone thinks it was just an accident. But if Phil ever found out Tony murdered Christopher, it would’ve terrified him.

Not because Phil is morally better. Obviously he’s a murderer himself. But Phil is old school in a specific way. He’s obsessed with blood, legacy, family, respect, all the mafia code stuff. His entire life revolves around avenging his brother (God rest his soul). He can never let Billy go, that’s who Phil is.

Tony by season 6 is spiritually hollowed out.

Christopher is (ostensibly) Tony’s closest family, outside of Carmela and the kids. Surrogate son/nephew. And Tony murders him not in some rage, not because Chris flipped, but basically because he had become inconvenient.

Phil would look at Tony completely differently after that. Not “this guy is tough.” More like, this is a human being with absolutely no remaining boundaries whatsoever. Which, to me, is scarier than normal mob violence.

The creepy part (as has been discussed ad nauseam on here) is that Tony can’t contain his relief afterward. The Vegas trip, the gambling, the euphoria … all right after one of his last human connections finally snapped.

Phil probably would’ve viewed that as deeply unnatural. ESPECIALLY because of his old school mafia standards. Maybe he’d be too frightened of Tony to start a war.

My most underrated line in the series: “Probably the least of his misdeeds.”

Carmela is talking to the psychiatrist recommended by Melfi, Dr. Krakower. She tells him she’s reconsidering her marriage with Tony and admits he’s in the mafia.

Carmela is hysterically crying and says, “So what … he betrays me everyday with these whores.”

To which Dr. Krakower replies, “Probably the least of his misdeeds.”

And that basically sums up my issue with Carmela. Your main beef with your husband is that he cheats on you. Yes, it’s a terrible thing for Tony to do. In a normal marriage, it would absolutely be a very grave transgression worth talking to a shrink about.

But this isn’t a normal marriage. And Tony isn’t a normal husband. For decades he’s been stealing from, assaulting, and murdering people. Taking kneecaps, busting out their stores — utterly ruining their lives. He is an incarnation of pure evil.

Carmela’s main problem with him? He has sex with other women.

Talk about selfish. You support a man who’s out there absolutely destroying lives every single day, and the adultery is your main concern? How about the fact that you support a fucking serial murderer? How is THAT not your main concern?

It’s one of the reasons I don’t rave about Whitecaps as much as other viewers. It’s a fantastic episode of course. But the entire time … I simply can’t feel bad for Carmela. You have no real moral standards. You’re raging about Tony’s infidelity, which doesn’t even crack the top 20 worst things he routinely does.

It’s like having stage IV cancer but being most concerned about your stubbed toe.

It must’ve really sucked to be a Sopranos fan who died in 9/11.

The last episode prior to 9/11 was the season 3 finale, “Army of One,” which aired on May 20, 2001.

The next episode (season 4 premiere “For All Debts Public and Private”) didn’t air until September 15, 2002.

The Sopranos fans who perished in 9/11 never got to see Ralph receive his comeuppance for killing Tracey. He was still alive as of this point. So they had to watch Ralph gouge Georgie’s eye out, beat Tracey to death, and disrespect the Bing, and as far as they’re aware, he keeps on going without any comeuppance.

Has to be one of the worst parts of dying in 9/11. Osama was inconsiderate.

Think about it. Sudden “suicide.”

Right after Tony complained to Melfi that Gloria was threatening his marriage. We know — and Melfi points out — that for all his cheating, Tony didn’t want to split with Carmela. Melfi also knows Tony is a gangster.

So for Gloria to turn up dead shortly after Tony openly worried she would blow up his marriage? I’m surprised Melfi wasn’t suspicious.
