Avalon: The City Where Magic Stopped Sleeping

This is not a smut server, this is a roleplay server with a side of smut.

This server is 18+, a queer and kink friendly space with occasionally dark and/or mature themes and literate writing, it's just a place for people who want to tell stories for their silly little characters and maybe get better at writing while they do that.

800 years ago, during the last mage war, so many mages were killed that magic itself retreated from the world as there just weren't enough practitioners anymore. Realms were cut off from one another, other races became recessive genes and phased out of bloodlines out until humans were all you found, except for some rare cases. The world fell into mundane cycles and after a while, most people forgot magic even existed.

Magic wasn't impossible during this time though, but the strongest mages were reduced to making sparks to light candles and similar low level feats... This allowed magic to spread again, albeit very slowly. Mages were allowed to exist in the world at large, but many were shunned or even hunted. Then, around 5 years ago, magic began to return!

The world was suddenly thrown into a period of chaos as dormant genes were reactivated, changing people's races into things more fantastical overnight. Mages were now able to cast real spells, and they found themselves getting stronger by the day. An organization from the time of magic, The Circle, suddenly became more than just some bland, secret society with a country club. As magic returned to the world, the Circle made a deal with the independent city-state of Avalon. The city would become the new home of the Circle, and with it the world's growing magical government. In exchange, the Circle would help fund the city’s infrastructure and growth, while also providing law and order. The hunting of mages outside the City grew worse, but they were welcomed in Avalon now. While the Circle has done little to protect their nonhuman citizens, a good deal of the community is starting to come around on them, welcoming them with open arms. It is still a risk to be something more than human in Avalon, but not nearly the death sentence it is elsewhere. With so many newcomers, Avalon quickly exploded outward into something huge.

Years on, the Circle has developed rudimentary laws around the misuse of magic and the beginnings of law enforcement. Due to the low amount of mages capable of acting as enforcers and the time it takes to train them, the nonmagical police are still heavily relied on, and they’re not doing much of a job to keep up with the evolving nature of crime. In the shadowy places of the city, organized crime has flourished, leading to black markets for illegal magical items, drugs, and services. Many of these are run by the nonhumans, who are accepted by a high number of their fellow citizens, but still oppressed by the system. A high demand for private mercenary groups and private investigators has also risen to fill in the gaps left by the actual government. Avalon is a big city, and there are new arrivals every day...

So as you can probably tell, this server has a modern/urban fantasy setting. Avalon is a megacity nearly the size of Texas. Currently there are a handful of already-made factions; The Circle is an elite group of mages that has existed as long as magic has and helps govern the city now, The House of Wolves is a Mafia/Cartel that has only gotten more powerful as magic returned to the world, The Golden Lotus Society is a subgroup of the Circle, even more secretive than the Circle itself, The Hands of Many are a rebel group that fights AGAINST the circle and the oppression they bring, and the Arcane Academy is a school that wants to bring magic to everyone and not just the elite few that the Circle decides to train.

These factions are just the current ones, the goal in this server is that once you get a hang of the world, you can start helping make your own factions and groups. Good guys, bad guys, morally grey guys, straight up EVIL guys, this server is still new and there is a LOT of room for the world to grow.

The only limit on how many characters you have is whatever you feel is reasonable, but this is an OC only server, no fandom characters allowed.

We're still setting things up so if you're interested, just send a DM with a small intro, how long you've been roleplaying for, what kind of tropes you want to explore and what kind of character you usually like making. Bonus points if you send a casual writing sample.

34M Looking for the real ones

Hi there. Time to try this again. Little about me and what I'm looking for first. I've been a gamer for many years and enjoy a lot of different types of games. When it comes to adding other people to that experience, it really depends on the other person if I'm going to enjoy that game with them. I lean towards horde shooters typically right now because those are easy to play with randos. What I'd like is to use the mutual hobby of gaming to form actual bonds of friendship, and I have many other interests and only a few hard noes (like I really don't like any shooter that is the cs2/valorant type where you just prefire the same angles and win). Generally speaking, I need good, reactive combat with options. I like playing all characters/classes in a game and while I like looking for synergies and builds, I don't like having to confirm strictly to a meta. Don’t try to optimize the fun out of the game. I prefer pve lately, but given the right person(s) I could get back into pvp.

Everyone knows that it can be hard using these things. I generally don't open up at first, but I can put in the effort of messaging, being kind, and communicating. If I'm always sending messages and getting nothing back, then I'll stop. You need to meet me half way. I'm decently chill, but I also don't have a large social battery, despite needing some friends. As long as you respond positively to messages and put in some effort, I'll keep meeting you half way.

So, to list some games, Darktide is my favorite right now. Easy to play with randos, plenty of options for gear and abilities, very good. Any horde shooter that comes close to doing that is probably one I own and will play. I like various roguelites that are multiplayer (like, my steam library is large, just name one and I probably have or want and will get it.) Survival craft games are a bit iffy, since I find the actual combat and exploration of a lot of them to be boring, but there are some I like and there are a lot on my radar. Favorite of that genre is Valheim, but I haven't played in several updates. There are many long form campaign games that I'd play single player and love, like BG3 is a big one, that if you stick around, I'd be willing to try with you. As for pvp, I've been into things like Arc Raiders, Hunt Showdown, PUBG, Apex Legends, and I would like to check out other more open shooters like Marathon, Beautiful Light, and Hunger. I am also interested in Deadlock, Dota 2, League of Legends, Overwatch, and Marvel Rivals, but you would really need to be patient because I haven't played them in a long time, and I really do want to play all characters in these things, which makes me pretty good, but not great at any of them. I play pc only.

Lastly, I do want to add that I'm not opposed to being invited to small groups of like five or so people if you think I'm a fit. However, I'm not going to just be there to pad out a list of people you can possibly call on for games. I want the friendship part of this, not just to be an lfg fill. Outside of gaming, I'm super into reading, anime, metal music, various other forms of fiction. I love good food, pets, memes sometimes, and just chilling and watching something stupid on youtube together. My sense of humor kinda depends on the energy I get, but I normally keep things light and relaxed. I'm not super competitive, but I hate being trolled or griefed. If any of this resonates with you, please do hit me up and give me some info on yourself. I look forward to it. I'm cst, and free Sunday - Tuesday, and some Saturdays.
