Join New Fund or Stay at Established Fund

I’m currently an MBA student who is doing his summer internship at a private equity firm. Before my MBA, I did not do private equity. I was in management consulting and then did corporate development. My private equity firm is a middle market PE firm whose most recent fund size was a little under $1.5B. We are on our 4th fund. Last fundraise was 2023. I was informed that I’ll be receiving a return offer to join as a Senior Associate at the end of my internship and that my performance is strong. It is a well established and good PE firm, but looking at the number of partners and principals as well as how long people have been at each level, I’m concerned about long term promotion prospects here. Hell, one principal jokes that he’ll be a principal for life. Also, everyone else who is at the senior associate level has been here for a long time (minimum 3 years), and I’m worried that will haunt me when promotion time to VP comes around. Also, I know PE is supposed to be high hours, but my firm has been particularly brutal based on my convos I’m having with my friends at other firms. This is also not my first PE internship. I did two before and both of those firms were far more relaxed. Separately, I received an offer to join a newly established PE firm. That firm’s first fund is $500M and is also aimed at the middle market with a similar investment mandate. They are wrapping up fundraising and are selling me hard on long term promotion prospects and the possibility to be fast tracked since they will be expanding the team and fund size over time. A lot of the team is from another well respected PE firm. A few partners left and took people with them to set this firm up. My professors had good things to say about them (one of my professors actually connected me with them). I am thinking that switching to the new PE firm will be better for my long term career, but I was wondering what the people on this forum’s thoughts are? Is there value in staying at my firm for the brand name even if I likely will have to lateral to move up?

Dallas Texas Unsupervised Probation for Low Level DUI Medical Marijuana Card

I had my court date mid May in Dallas and was charged with a Misdemeanor DUI of the lowest level. I also started probation 2 weeks ago. I’m not a resident of Dallas county and live in Chicago. I had a medical marijuana card from Illinois that I got like a week or 2 before probation started. I know in Illinois, medical marijuana cards are allowed to be used during probation; however, Illinois straight up denied my transfer request saying my crime wasn’t serious enough to need monitoring (apparently Chicago has bigger problems), so I was placed on community supervision with mail in reporting for 15 months by Dallas County (I’m not required to come in to Dallas to meet with anyone). Should I just send my medical marijuana card in to my Dallas PO? My lawyer said he doesn’t really know what to expect because it’s a weird situation, but he said it could cause issues. I was wondering what other people’s experience has been with this? I am considering if I should just not report my medical marijuana card and hope I don’t get drug tested since they don’t seem to care much about my case

What’s Your Most Sentimental Card In Your Collection? Victory Dragon Foil Bleed Misprint

Hello, I’m new to this sub. I wanted to show one of my personal favorite cards that also has deep meaning to me. I pulled this card, Victory Dragon, right before I got into my dream graduate school. It became sentimental as a result. It’s from retro pack 2 and actually is a misprint due to the severe foil bleed. What’s your favorite card in your collection that means a lot to you?

Private Equity Recruiting in India from America

Hi guys, I’m currently an M7 MBA student in America. Before business school, I worked in a T2 management consulting firm (one of the Big 4’s strategy consulting arms) in New York City focused on commercial due diligence and then worked at a F500 healthcare company in Corporate Development. In business school, I’ve been interning at a PE firm focused on healthcare and currently will work at another healthcare-focused PE firm for my summer internship (I do have the option to join full time after my internship). I’ve been increasingly curious about going to India and pursuing private equity there instead of continuing in America. I’m originally Indian and moved here in middle school. I visit regularly and have a lot of family over there. I also believe that due to India’s high growth, burgeoning healthcare industry, and unique challenges, it will be a more interesting environment over there. How does PE recruiting work there? For the opportunities I have received in PE in the USA, I just sent cold emails and LinkedIn requests. Is that the approach I should take for India?
