Potentially putting down a budgie for quality of life

I’m just questioning if I actually want to do that or not? I need some outside opinions :(

I have this budgie, he was born with a couple deformities: most obvious being his legs, he has something fused in there so they’re stuck at the angle in the photo & he walks around on his ankle (? Or whatever that part of their legs is) but other than that he can grip things and stand on thin perches / ropes.

He also had an injury which resulted in a dented keel bone before I got him :(

I’ve had two vets tell me to consider ending his life because his quality of life isn’t good but I just really don’t know

It’s probably selfish but I don’t want to ?

He’s literally never let his own problems bother him: despite everything he’s super chatty, sings, flirts with my other budgies and runs around and begs for millet and any other thing a normal happy budgie would do! There’s no way his quality of life is bad enough to end it even though he acts happy right?

I understand that eventually that will be for the best but I just feel like it’s way to early since he hasn’t been showing signs of his problems bothering him, he does most likely have some chronic pain and is on some painkillers but even before those he acted so normal and happy.

I get that birds hide illness/ pain well but I really don’t see how an unhappy bird could act and behave like him 😕 I wouldn’t be debating this if he showed any signs of being unhappy or his problems finally being too much for him

Idk I might just be selfish thinking all this, i also have another older budgie who is on palliative care because of a tumour so that might be affecting how I feel about this since it means I’ll have to be losing 2 of my budgies soon.

I think if I do decide to let him go early I’ll still wait until my other budgies on palliative care’s health declines so they can go together instead of being alone.

Might be in denial but I just need to hear other peoples opinions so I can do what’s best for him.

He’s on palliative care… doesn’t act like it though

He had an X-ray earlier this week… the results weren’t very good :(

He’s only 7 year old yet he has air sac scarring, arthritis and a huge tumour that nothing can really be done about, we aren’t sure how fast it’s growing either so he could have anywhere from just a few weeks to potentially a few months.

The focus now is to just keep him as happy as he is now and on some anti-inflammatory until anything changes.

I’ve had him for a third of my life and it’s so devastating knowing we only have such a limited amount of time left, but all that matters for now is that he is happy and isn’t in pain ❤️

preserving pet skeleton?

Hello, my pet budgie recently got a horrible diagnosis and most likely won’t make it another year- he has a huge tumour and I plan to let him pass away peacefully at the vets once the tumour starts to hurt/ affect him (he’s currently a very happy old boy), rather than try get him to live as long as possible in pain.

After he passes I want to preserve his skeleton, I want it to be a statue(?) of sorts where he is sitting on a branch.

Is that possible? How do I find people who are able to do this and how do I make sure they’re reputable? I’m in the UK if anyone has recommendations

Im just so sad knowing my childhood pet now only has a few months to live and I just want to get this planned out in advance so I don’t have to worry about it when his health really starts to decline :(

My budgie lost his balance temporarily because of his medication

He’s okay now but it was so scary.

He was on doxycycline because of a respiratory infection that got bad FAST and he was slowly getting better but on the 5th day I woke up and he just couldn’t balance well at all.

Immediately cried, then called the vets to get an appointment ASAP because honestly I thought he might’ve had a stroke or something overnight??

Then I’m told it’s most likely just from the medication, we switched to a different one and the poor guy was stuck with vertigo for 5 whole days!! He’s got his balance back and actually has an X-ray tomorrow so hopefully that goes well too…

But from google I saw NOTHING about vertigo being a side effect for animals on this medication and could only find it as a symptom for people on the human version of the medication, it was so scary not being able to find anyone online who went through anything similar!!
