Is it worth applying for a Team Lead position?
Is it worth applying for a Team Lead position considering that I’ve only been with the company for one year, while my colleague who is also applying has been there for 6 years?
He has applied twice before and was rejected because he was considered reactive and lacking leadership qualities. However, this March they appointed him as a coordinator, meaning he took over some of the manager’s responsibilities because the manager had too much on their plate, and because my colleague said he would leave if he didn’t advance.
Now the Team Lead position is opening up, and my colleague will apply. To me, it feels like the role is being opened specifically for him, since he is already acting as coordinator, so it would be the natural next step for him. I would also like to apply, but I’m not sure what chances I would realistically have.
