Why did they first investigate Pete Rose gambling?

I was born in 1992, so I wasn’t alive for the whole Pete Rose gambling stuff. Forgive me.

I also want to say that I am not denying Pete Rose bet on baseball. I won’t start a debate either about whether he belongs in the HOF or not

My question is, how did the MLB first suspect Pete Rose was betting on baseball? In today’s world, with the Internet, everyone having smartphones, CCTV cameras everywhere, etc., that stuff is easy to track, hence why almost everyone gets caught if they bet on the sport they are in.

But in the late 1980s, that stuff (aside from CCTV cameras, although not nearly as much exited back then as today) didn’t exist yet. So I am curious how it was first suspected that Pete Rose was betting on baseball. Was he seen inside a casino? Was he seen with a known bookie? What happened to make MLB investigate him in the first place?

Just a general curiosity question.

Coors Field advice for a first timer?

Hello Rockies fans! I am a Brewers fan, and in August, my girlfriend and I will be coming for a long weekend to Denver to mainly go to a Rockies vs. Dodgers game, on August 17th. We are in section 132, Row 17, seats 3 and 4.

We did a Midwest baseball trip earlier this year, enjoyed it, and want to visit a new stadium again.

First off I want to make sure it’s safe to wear my Brewers gear, even if they aren’t playing. However, we do like to buy hats at the stadiums we visit, so we will probably be wearing Rockies hats during the game.

Also, best food at the stadium? When we visit new cities, we like to try food the city is famous for (for instance, in Kansas City earlier this year, it was BBQ, St. Louis was toasted ravioli, etc.). I noticed Denver is famous for pork and green chile, local game meat like bison and elk, and a Denver omelet. Anywhere at the stadium (or near the stadium) where we can get this stuff?

Is it worth it doing a ballpark tour? We like to tour ballparks that we visit when we go to a game.

Thanks in advance for all advice!

Why would Barry Bonds take steroids when he was already having a Hall of Fame career?

I was born in 1992, so I didn’t see Barry Bonds play early in his career.

However, doing some research and listening to my late father and older brother, both big baseball fans, along with others, told me before Barry Bonds started taking steroids, he was already easily a Hall of Fame player. So, why risk his career by taking something that would make him frowned upon? It would be like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, or Aaron Rodgers taking some banned substance in their prime when they were already having a legendary career.

My girlfriend and I are doing a Midwest baseball trip next month, and one of our stops is Cleveland, where we will be attending the Guardians vs. Nationals game on May 26th in the evening. I am a Brewers fan, my girlfriend just got into baseball two years ago, and likes attending games with me. This will be the first time at Progressive Field for either of us.

We are in section 454, row A, seats 15 and 16.

Would it be weird to wear my Brewers gear (hat and shirt) to the game, even though they aren’t playing? We also like collecting caps from the ballparks we visit, so we may wear the Guardians cap instead.

We also like doing ballpark tours. Does Progressive Field give ballpark tours before the game, or early in the day?

Where can we get some good concessions during the game? Or would it be better to get it outside of the stadium? During this trip, we are going to try and eat food that is well known in the city (such as BBQ in KC, our first stop). I notice Cleveland is famous for Polish Boy sandwiches, pierogi, and the local Lake Erie perch and walleye. We are staying right across the street at Hilton Garden Inn Cleveland Downtown. I also like collecting those little baseball helmets that serve soft serve ice cream.

Also, don’t need any beer advice, neither of us drink alcohol, as we take meds that doesn’t mix well with it.

Any other advice or tips would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

My girlfriend and I are doing a Midwest baseball road trip next month, and our last stop is Detroit. I am a Brewers fan, my girlfriend just got into baseball 2 years ago and likes going to games with me. This will be our first time at Comerica Park.

We are in section 120, row 20, seats 3 and 4.

Would it be weird to wear my Brewers gear to the game (hat and shirt)? We also like collecting caps from each park we visit, so we may get Tigers caps and I will wear that for the game instead.

We like doing ballpark tours as well, but it’s an early game, so they won’t have any that day.

What are good concessions at the ballpark, or food places nearby? During the trip, we have been trying to eat food that the city is known for (such as BBQ in KC, our first stop). I noticed Detroit has its own pizza style and is also known for Coney Dogs and corned beef sandwiches. Any good places in or around the ballpark to get this stuff? We are staying at Hollywood Casino at Greektown. We also like collecting those batting helmets with soft serve ice cream in them.

Also, don’t give me any beer advice, none of drink alcohol, it doesn’t mix well with some meds we take.

Any other advice or tips would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

My girlfriend and I are doing a Midwest baseball trip in May and our second stop (after KC) is St. Louis. I am a Brewers fan. My girlfriend got into baseball two years ago, and just likes coming to games with me.

We are in section 252, row 2, seats 3 and 4.

Is it seen as taboo to wear Brewers gear (hat and shirt) to a Cardinals game when they aren’t playing? I know we are rivals, haha. Just trying to visit new stadiums. We are trying to collect caps at each ballpark, though, so I might wear a Cardinals hat instead.

We try to do ballpark tours, but seeing as it’s an early game, they won’t have ballpark tours that day.

We are also trying to try foods in the cities we visit that in that city, it’s well known. For instance, in KC, it’s BBQ. Toasted ravioli is big in St. Louis I see. Anywhere at Busch Stadium to get this? Or should we get it somewhere else in St. Louis? We also like to collect soft serve ice cream batting helmets, wondering if they serve those there, too.

Btw, we are staying at HoteLumiere at the Arch, about a 25 minute walk, and it goes past the Arch.

Any other advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

My girlfriend and I started a thing where we have been trying to go to every MLB stadium. On Saturday, May 9th, we are going to the White Sox game against the Mariners, which I picked so we could see what is (or was, I guess) supposed to be a good team with a superstar, with Cal Raleigh (though I notice he hasn’t had the best season this year after hitting 60 home runs last year).

We are in section 128, row 6, seats 5 and 6.

I’m a Brewers fan, while my girlfriend has gotten into baseball about two years ago and just likes going to games. Would it be okay for me to wear my Brewers shirt and hat? Or should I wear something else? We have also been trying to collect a cap of each team we visit, wondering if it would be more appropriate to wear the White Sox hat instead.

We try to do ballpark tours too, but I see Rate Field has none.

Also, what is the best place to eat at the stadium? We would love to get ourselves a Chicago style hot dog, but any other tips would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
