How to tell a potential partner about HSV1

Hi there I am 29(M) and have very recently started seeing a 25(F) only a date in but it feels very natural and there may be some intimacy in future we have kissed a bit

I had a 'scare' of herpes at uni when 18, but never got myself tested at the time as I was irresponsible. I never had any symptoms nor have any partners long term or otherwise said anything outside of this initial one many years ago. That was until 2024, my ex had an outbreak and told me she thought it could have been me (i told her about the scare). I spoke to the clinic and they wouldnt test me as i had no symptoms and they dont test for HSV1 unless active symptoms are present.

We carried on together until we broke up, unrelated to HSV1.

I have been single for over a year, and only had one night stand. Nothing to report there, same for all the other partners. I also had a long term relationship for a year, without knowing and we never had any issues at all.

I decided I wanted to do a test the other day and ordered a home kit, it was negative for HSV2, but had a very faint line for HSV1. I am a bit upset as I feel I need to tell her, as while we have not been intimate (apart from the kiss) I cannot in good conscience keep it from her as a potential partner and feel its the right thing to do.

We are due to go on a 2nd date tomorrow and things are going well, but this has dampened my mood a bit as I am scared of scaring her off over something that may well be nothing and most people carry anyway.

Any advice on how to speak to her about it/when? I wanted to call today but she's likely gone to sleep.

Any advice welcome, thanks
