So I've always been a console guy, just how I grew up and what I enjoy. When I was young rocking around with my PS1 the only RTS I was able to play was Command and Conquer - I loved it so much that I recently bought the remastered collection of the original and red alert , had a blast.

Well recently I saw AoE2 on PS5 on offer. Thought I'd relive those old days of RTS and give it a shot. Now normally nostalgia plays a huge part in my enjoyment of the game (can't enjoy the new FFVII for example) but I can comfortably say that this blows C&C out of the water. What a phenomenal game and omg the amount of content -

When I was playing through the campaigns I didn't notice that it said "Europe" at the top, so when I was done with them I moved onto the Historical Battles...a few battles in I noticed I could press R1, and holy shit those were just the European campaigns I was doing. Whole new multiple worlds opened up at once. Bearing in mind I was ALREADY blown away by the amount of content before I saw the different campaign menus.

I'm not a multiplayer guy, I doubt I'll ever touch it. But the fact this is primarily a multiplayer game and yet they STILL cater massively to single player...players feels so rare.

Also a massive thank you to this community over the years, the amount of times in the last month I've had to look some mechanic, or unit or whatever up, this place always delivers the goods.

So I recently bought the entire collection and have been going through it from the beginning over the last couple of months, and in one early episode he briefly mentions how Hollywood is making a movie about the Spartans and the Battle of Thermopylae. It took me a moment to realise he was talking about 300, and it really hit home how long he's been doing this.

I got into his show back during lockdown, so it got me curious if anyone here is one of the early fans he talks a lot about in the first episodes? Must have been a pain waiting for so long between episodes for the past 20 years if so!

As soon as I saw the Viking celebration and photoshoot by the Norwegians at the World Cup I thought of Dan and his "someone will make a history of the benefits and positives of the third Reich". Anyone else?

I mean, the vikings were very known as raiders, they'd pillage, murder, rape, take slaves, and now they're a celebration at the world cup!

I think if Italy had made the world cup and done, say, a Legionary photo shoot it would have been the same thing, people would think it was cool....I probably would! Even though we all know the raising of cities, the possible genocide of the Celts, and the oppressing of people in their Empire.

So how long until we get goose stepping Germans at the world cup? 500 years? 1000? Or the British colonising the pitch celebrations? I think we need Mongolia in the next world cup, I want to see a mountain of skulls photoshoot!
