I work for a small human‑rights charity just a few hours a week. Been here 5 years now. Our team recently grew and new management came in.
Not long after, they heavily criticised me over a typo in a document I didn’t even create. They then used that as an excuse to say they were reducing my weekly hours by one saying I'm not using my time to check documents correctly. I’m a permanent employee with a contract, so I refused this change. The issue escalated all the way to the CEO.
She was understanding at first and agreed with me, and the meeting seemed positive then right at the end she completely reversed her position. She claimed they could change my contract and even blamed me for the typo. She also let slip that the organisation has financial problems and they’ve wanted to remove my role for a long time. Legally, they can’t just fire people like that in my country.
I understand the financial pressure, but what I can’t accept is the bullying and aggressive behaviour. It’s disgusting. I have excellent track record.
I'm now off work on company sick pay, and ironically, the time and money spent on meetings and HR involvement is far more than what they would have saved by trying to cut one measly hour from my week.
