Hi everyone!

I’m a Canadian postgrad student coming to the UoL this fall and trying to figure out accommodation - I’m stuck between the village vs the city and would love some advice.

A bit about what I’m looking for:

  • Budget: ~£130–£180/week
  • Definitely want my own bathroom (ensuite) but happy to share a kitchen
  • Not super concerned about being around other Canadian law kids, honestly more focused on meeting people and having a good social environment

From what I’ve seen:

  • The village seems more social and community-oriented, but further out
  • The city is closer to campus and nightlife

I don’t mind taking the bus from the Village, but I’m slightly worried about getting back late if I go out - are buses reliable late at night or is it a pain?

Also - I was originally looking at Freemen’s Common but it’s honestly a bit too expensive for me (ensuites go up to £224+/week 😭) so I’m trying to stay more within my budget.

Does anyone have recommendations for the best halls that:

  • fall in the £130–£180 range
  • have ensuite rooms
  • are social / easy to meet people

Also curious:

  • Is the Village mostly undergrads, or do postgrads live there too?
  • Where do people tend to make more friends?
  • If you were new and didn’t know anyone, what would you pick?

Any advice (or specific hall recommendations) would be super helpful - thank you so much!
