Signed with one drilling company, now a better offer may come through

Company A is confirmed: signed contract, medical cleared, onboarding done, travel/start tomorrow. It’s 3/1 at $475/day 12hour days plus super. Company B was messy with delays and reference issues, but now says induction is this week and the offer sounds better: $540/day 12hour days, 2/1, plus super. I don’t want to burn a bridge after signing, but I also don’t want to ignore better pay and more time off if Company B actually sends the contract.

Anyone here worked for Raglan Drilling in WA?

I’m looking at an entry-level offsider role with them and just want to know what they’re like to work for. Not looking for sugarcoating, just honest feedback from people who’ve worked there or know someone who has.

Had a pre-employment medical for a drilling offsider role. How close am I really?

I applied for an entry-level Driller’s Offsider role with a WA drilling company. Recruiter called and said the manager had reviewed my resume and I was “good to move forward” for the next step.

They told me the role was about $45/hr, 12-hour days, 2:1 roster, caravan-based rather than camp. They asked for passport, visa, licence, Working at Heights, First Aid, etc., and references through Referoo.

I completed the pre-employment medical last Friday through Knight Health. Clinic said everything looked good and they would send results to the employer. I haven’t done drug and alcohol yet, so I assume that may come later before mobilisation/site entry.

It’s now Wednesday and I haven’t heard back yet, so around 3 business days.

For people in drilling/mining: does an employer-paid medical usually mean you’re a preferred candidate, or do companies send several people through? How long did it take you to hear back after medical? Could references/mobilisation admin be slowing it down?

Not counting it as confirmed until contract/start date, just trying to understand how strong of a sign it is.

Cheers.

Hey everyone. I moved to Perth in search of a mining job. I’ve been here for a month now on a WHV. I got my white card, working at heights, confined spaces, working with gas & HR-B license. I’m having trouble finding work. Forget mining, a simple job as a kitchen porter or factory/warehouse hand would suffice to keep me afloat but I face rejection after rejection. my question is should I stay in Perth and continue searching and applying or should I move to Kalgoorlie and try my luck there ? Any advice would be appreciated.
