Folks in the US: what do you think is a fair price for stringing (labor only/BYOStrings)?

I’ve gone to five stringers/stores in the DC area. Cheapest has been $23.50, most expensive was $30. Are prices lower in areas where retail rent isn’t so expensive?

Pro Staff 97 users — tell me about your string set-up and why you like it

I recently switched to the Pro Staff 97 v14 from the Tecnifibre TFight 315 RS. I have a big flat serve, one handed backhand, and I serve and volley about 35% of the time. I’m wondering what strings and tension other PS 97 users play with, and why they like it.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

- Toroline Caviar (53 lbs) — liked it; good spin and control
- Caviar mains/Truffle X crosses (53 lbs for both) — noticeably softer, better spin, not as precise
- Head Lynx Tour (53 lbs) — crushed the ball, but it’s probably too stiff
- Toroline A5 (52 lbs) — very comfortable, good spin, but felt like I was launching the ball a lot
- Toroline Wasabi mains/Ghost Wire crosses (52 lbs) — soft, predictable, very muted feel

Houbigant fragrances: thought to be weak?

I am big into old school fougeres, chypres and ambers, especially the more masculine offerings, but hadn’t tried any Houbigants until recently, when I bought samples of Fougere Royale, Bois Mystique and Cologne Intense.

The common theme between them: I can barely smell them on my skin. I don’t generally have that problem with other fragrances, nor is it common for me to go anosmic. So I’m thinking these just aren’t real strong? Or maybe I got a bad decant? I’d be surprised if it were the latter, since I bought from Scent Split, and they’re very reliable

Hardcore cramping in my legs, but only long after a match is over (6+ hours). What gives?

I’m totally fine during the match. I hydrate before, during and after. I often carb up the night before, and always get protein in my body after.

But assuming the match wasn’t a total cake walk, there’s a high likelihood that in the evening following a morning match, or in the middle of the night following an evening match, my legs will start cramping unbelievably hard. It’s excruciating. Like, almost to the point of tears.

Factors to consider: I just turned 50. I sip whiskey most nights. I rarely do a dynamic cool-down (I do often stretch later on, but it doesn’t seem to help). I take creatine supplements and stimulant meds for ADHD, in addition to being highly caffeinated most days.

Any ideas about what’s going on, or what I can try to address the issue?

Need a firearms expert for a Virginia court case. Not toolmark analysis, but rather general ballistics & stuff like lethality/accuracy/range of various calibers and categories of firearms.

If you have any recommendations, please DM me. The person doesn’t necessarily have to live or work in Virginia as long as they’re willing to travel to court for trial (don’t want to say exactly where but it’s closer to DC than Richmond). Strong preference for someone who’s testified before, but not required if they’re otherwise super well qualified.

Chances that any gun store within 50 miles of Arlington/Alexandria still have AR’s in stock?

I’m a relative newbie to gun ownership — purchased my first two handguns earlier this year — and unfortunately I waited far too long to purchase a soon-to-be-outlawed rifle. I know any store with AR-15s still in stock will totally rip me off, but I don’t really have a choice at this point. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What’s the formula for Instagram tennis success if you’re not that good? 1) Indoor court (for max volume); 2) maybe even pressureless balls (same reason); 3) show nothing other than OHBHs off of perfectly fed balls; 4) shirtlessness or lycra wedgie shorts…

What else?

Thread inspired by the shirtless guy who only hits backhands off of perfectly fed balls and the guy who only shows aces of dudes who aren’t even trying to get his serve back.
