[Bug] Update v2.2.1 failing to install (Stuck on v2.1.4) – Notification just disappears

As usual, the update arrived two days ago, but I only noticed it after going to the official website and checking the changelog. While I use the program daily, it doesn't sync every hour or so to notify me of an update.

The problem isn't the update itself; it's that it starts downloading, but after a few seconds, the notification disappears, as if the update was downloaded but never installed. This is the fifteenth time I've tried, and I've tried many methods, but the problem persists, even after completely closing the program.

It's so frustrating! The simplest problems seem unsolvable by the company, while they should be working hard to fix update issues so they can be installed without affecting or damaging anything. It seems Google finds this difficult.

As usual, the latest update rolled out two days ago (June 25th), but I only just noticed it today (June 27th) after manually checking the changelog on the official website. Even though I use this Google program daily, it apparently doesn't sync regularly enough to notify me of a pending update.

📊 Antigravity Versions Details

  • Current Version: v2.1.4
  • Target Version: v2.2.1

⚠️ The Problem

The issue isn't the update itself—it's the broken installation process. The update starts downloading, but after a few seconds, the notification just vanishes. It acts as if the update was successfully downloaded, but it never actually triggers the install.

🛠️ What I've Tried

I have tried to get this to work at least 15 times now.

  • Tried triggering the update through multiple different methods.
  • Completely force-closed the program from the background and restarted it.
  • Result: The problem persists every single time.

Is Antigravity a joke? Infinitely looping, burning my credits, and just wiped my entire progress.

I asked Antigravity to implement a premium datepicker across 3 pages (Records, Transactions, and Payments). It’s working fine on the Records page, but the moment I asked it to apply it to the other two, things went completely off the rails.

For the last 57 minutes straight, this agent has been running in circles. It created 1 file, modified over 7 different PHP files, and is now stuck in an infinite loop "analyzing admin for 1 minute" over and over again.

To make things worse, the screen now says: "The server cleared a prefix of the conversation as it grew too large.

This is the worst app I have ever used, and I can't believe it belongs to Google.

How long is this problem going to last?

I’ve been struggling for four days now; I’m on the verge of deleting the app—while cursing it out—for taking my money without delivering anything in return.

I have 90 PHP files that are easy to work with, and I used to handle them in an IDE with far fewer issues.

But with the new versions, the problems have become increasingly bizarre.

It takes ages just to read the feedback it gives you, only for it to fail to actually fix the issue.

And the most annoying message that keeps popping up is "resources exhausted."

I've been trying and pleading with him for 380 years, but he doesn't want to. Thank you, Google, and thank you to your team. LOL

50 minutes for a basic CSS tweak? Antigravity + Gemini 3.5 Flash High is an absolute joke right now.

50 minutes for a basic CSS tweak? Antigravity + Gemini 3.5 Flash High is an absolute joke right now.

I’ve been sitting here for 50 minutes waiting for Antigravity to finish processing a single prompt.

All I asked it to do was slightly enhance the styling of a basic reset_password page. That’s it. A simple frontend tweak.

I’m literally paying for Gemini 3.5 Flash High, which Google explicitly markets as being 5x faster than the Pro edition. Instead of speed, check out the video to see how it's just hanging indefinitely while completely eating through my credits.

Are they serious? Burning through tens of dollars for a basic prompt? This feels like straight-up scam territory at this point. Anyone else dealing with this garbage performance lately or is Antigravity just broken?

Is Antigravity IDE becoming a "dating app" for AI instead of a professional development tool?

Is Antigravity IDE becoming a "dating app" for AI instead of a professional development tool?

I’ve been a long-time user, but my experience with the latest Antigravity IDE update has been nothing short of a nightmare. As a professional, I rely on a stable, efficient workflow, but this update feels like a massive regression. I wanted to share my experience in case anyone else is struggling with the same roadblocks.

The "Anti-User" Experience:

  • Authentication Mess: I couldn't find the standard Google Cloud Console login option. I was forced to use a generic Google account login that demanded a QR code scan—I spent over 45 minutes just trying to bypass this absurdly frustrating verification step.
  • Setup Hurdles: Dealing with the Google Cloud SDK Shell during installation was a disaster. It felt like I was fighting the software rather than setting it up.
  • Missing Features & API Integration: After finally getting in, I couldn't even find a straightforward way to add my API key from Google AI Studio to use Gemini Flash/Pro. To make matters worse, most extensions aren't showing up at all.
  • Broken Ecosystem: I tried installing Continue (the open-source AI code agent), and it was an endless cycle of failure. It feels like the IDE is actively preventing me from using the tools I need.

The "Self-Developing" Myth:

There’s a popular theory floating around that Antigravity is being "self-developed" by an AI. Honestly? After this experience, I’m starting to believe it. It feels like a platform that has lost touch with human developer needs.

Why the "Pay-As-You-Go" Frustration?

I am a paying user on a Pay-As-You-Go plan, yet I am being forced into a "new and improved" version that feels like a poorly designed dating app. It’s essentially just a basic chat window for an AI, stripped of the professional-grade IDE functionality we actually pay for.

Question to the community: Has anyone else been forced into this update? Is there a way to roll back, or are we just stuck with this "simplified" mess? How is a new user supposed to survive this, if an experienced engineer is struggling this hard?

Antigravity - Tokens Firm but Professional

Antigravity freezing loop is draining tokens and making the UI unusable. Is a fix coming?

Agent terminated due to error
You can prompt the model to try again or start a new conversation if the error persists.See our troubleshooting guide for more help.

Is anyone else losing their mind over this? This has to be the 120th time my Antigravity conversation has completely frozen.

Because of this bug, I’m forced to open a brand-new discussion. When I do, the agent completely loses context. It starts acting completely blank, forcing it to re-analyze the entire workspace, files, and brain from scratch. Not only does it take at least 5 minutes just to get ready again, but this constant re-reading is burning through my tokens (costing me upwards of $20 for absolutely no reason), and it still makes mistakes afterward.

This has been happening consistently for the last 4 months since the recent updates. I know Google/the dev team sees these bug logs. When is this going to be fixed? Right now, forcing the agent to constantly re-read files from scratch just feels like a strategy to burn through user tokens and collect more money.

As you can see in my setup, the agent just gets stuck in an infinite "analyzing" loop, draining unlimited tokens. And the best part? If you try to click "Stop" to save your tokens, you get hit with an error. You can't revert, and you can't stop it. What a joke.

Critical Feedback on the Google AI Coding Experience: Marketing vs. Developer Reality

  1. Zero Data Protection: Uninstalling the app instantly wipes the entire AppData folder without warning, permanently nuking your local files, "brain," and memories in a single second.
  2. Unhandled "Open in IDE" Crash: Clicking "Open in IDE" when you don't have the IDE installed throws a raw, unhandled Windows system error instead of failing gracefully.
  3. Timestamp UI Glitching: In longer conversations, the UI completely breaks down, causing the last message's timestamp to loop and randomize rapidly.
  4. Restricted Authentication: You are forced to use a standard Gmail login because they bizarrely left out Google Cloud Console login support for the IDE.
  5. Severe API Throttling (Pro 3.1): Gemini 3.1 Pro is brutally throttled when using a Cloud connection (taking 41 minutes just to analyze 3 files), running 5x slower than it does on a standard consumer subscription.
  6. Infinite Flash Token-Burning Loops: They push you to use the "faster" Gemini 3.5 Flash (which took 1.3 minutes), but it hallucinates endlessly. A simple 2-line PHP fix caused it to run Python scripts in a continuous loop for over 37 minutes, doing absolutely nothing but burning tokens.
  7. Insane API Costs: Thanks to these endless agentic loops, normal testing burned through $210 of a $300 Google Cloud free trial in just 4 hours.
  8. Memory Leaks & Dropped Context: The app suffers from massive idle RAM memory leaks and randomly drops custom system instructions right in the middle of a chat.
  9. Total IDE Hijack & Wiped Settings (Community Bug): Google made a rookie deployment mistake, dumping the 2.0 update into the exact same folder as the 1.x IDE. It hijacks the executable and changes the config path, which effectively locks Windows users out of the old IDE and wipes all their extensions, keymaps, and themes.
  10. Black Screen of Death (Community Bug): A major initialization bug leaves users staring at a black screen on startup because the Electron framework throws an unhandled "No native storage bridge found" error.
  11. Frozen Sign-In Screens (Community Bug): The app’s state management is broken; authentication completes in the browser, but the app gets stuck and refuses to transition, forcing users to force-quit and restart multiple times just to log in.

The Full Consolidated Paragraph

Antigravity 2.0.6 is an absolute technical disaster that merges severe application-breaking bugs with predatory, token-burning model behavior. At the application level, it is a completely unstable mess: uninstalling the app instantly deletes your entire AppData folder without warning (wiping out all your local memories and brain data), the UI completely glitches out by looping timestamps in long conversations, and clicking "Open in IDE" without the dependency throws a raw Windows system error. The community is equally enraged, reporting massive idle RAM leaks, frozen sign-in screens, a black screen on startup caused by a missing native storage bridge, and a botched Electron deployment that overwrites the original 1.x IDE directory, effectively wiping all user extensions and keymaps. On the AI side, the model routing and latency are completely broken; authentication blocks Google Cloud Console logins, and connecting via Cloud artificially throttles Gemini 3.1 Pro to the point where it takes 41 minutes to analyze just three files. This artificial throttling forces you to use Gemini 3.5 Flash, which is incredibly prone to hallucinatory, token-burning execution loops—like spending 37 minutes endlessly running background Python scripts for a simple 2-line PHP fix without ever giving an answer. Between the data wiping, the hijacked IDE settings, the unhandled crashes, and an endless execution loop that easily burns through $210 of API credits in just four hours, this update is a catastrophic failure from Google.
