Same salary & everything. CS lead with 10 yrs of exp. Told me they were getting rid of that role. They tried to have Gemini manage a team of 8 (CSRs can just ask Gemini if they can’t figure something out!), onboarding, churn reduction & customer escalations (someone’s upset? Just ask Gemini what to do).

No performance issues or personality clashes leading up to it, it was a small company and it really seemed like they were just hard up for cash, CEO had a huge hard on for AI, and they didn’t want to pay my salary.

Just wanted to throw some hopeful vibes out there for anyone who’s being told that they’re replaceable by AI. You probably aren’t.

I’ve been watching a lot of blonding specialist content because I find it soothing but like… let me get this straight.

They’re bleaching the hair to a yellow or light orange and then toning with something that will wash out. Fast. If someone complains about it washing out they blame the person’s hard water or heat usage (shouldn’t we be using something that can withstand the type of water 99% of people have? Shouldn’t we be accepting that 99% of clients use heat?)

They complain about people overusing purple shampoo but it’s like… yea the color you put on their hair can’t handle 4 showers or a few times using heat and they’re left with whatever your raw bleach job looked like? Of course they’re trying to fix it at home?

I don’t want to be uncharitable but it kind of seems like they’re just trying to get a blonde shade that looks great for the insta pic right after. And maybe to force the person back because in six weeks they’re staring at the raw lift in the mirror asking why there are stripes where their root smudge used to be and wtf happened to their “creamy” blonde lol.

The same people are charging 500+ for a service for something that needs upkeep every six weeks to maintain. And they make content about how to be a hairstylist who makes 100k/yr and it’s like… yea you’re trapping people into a vicious cycle and you’re constantly solving a problem you created?

Also- are they putting it on wet hair because they don’t want to do the work of drying it after bleaching? Shades EQ specifically says you’re supposed to put it on dry hair. Maybe it would last longer for the average person if they did that?

I’d love to be educated if I’m missing something! I know your job isn’t easy and people come in with unrealistic expectations but the science of this is confusing and those tiny bottles of toner are expensive af.
