Last week the small rural community of Winkler, Manitoba - arguably the most conservative community in Canada held its first ever Pride. The event was a tremendous success with 2,500 people in attendance! On Sunday their billboard between Winkler and Morden was vandalized. Their response - quickly turning the actual image of the vandalism into a symbol of defiance and pride! Something that was meant to be negative and turned it into something positive.

On Sunday Pembina Valley Pride’s billboard between Winkler as Morden was vandalized. People joked in r/Winnipeg that the spray-painted sign had a bit of a “goth rainbow” look… well now anyone can have that look. 😂
I think it’s pretty cool how they took something that was meant to be negative and turned it into something positive.
“You can’t spray the gay away” is honestly a pretty great response.

This comes just ahead of Pembina Valley Pride in Winkler tomorrow (Saturday 13th), the first time the regions largest city will host the event which has previous been held in Morden, Altona and Carman. Communities across the Pembina Valley are having conversations about belonging and welcome.
