‘You Can’t Spray The Gay Away’ Rural Pride’s response to homophobic vandalism.

Last week the small rural community of Winkler, Manitoba - arguably the most conservative community in Canada held its first ever Pride. The event was a tremendous success with 2,500 people in attendance! On Sunday their billboard between Winkler and Morden was vandalized. Their response - quickly turning the actual image of the vandalism into a symbol of defiance and pride! Something that was meant to be negative and turned it into something positive.

‘You Can’t Spray The Gay Away’ - Pembina Valley Pride responds to vandalism

On Sunday Pembina Valley Pride’s billboard between Winkler as Morden was vandalized. People joked in r/Winnipeg that the spray-painted sign had a bit of a “goth rainbow” look… well now anyone can have that look. 😂
I think it’s pretty cool how they took something that was meant to be negative and turned it into something positive.
“You can’t spray the gay away” is honestly a pretty great response.

Pride belongs in the Pembina Valley billboard vandalized between Winkler & Morden

Sad to have seen this today. It’s brought me and others such joy this past month driving past it. Any information please contact the RCMP or the Winkler Police.
