What makes the Northern Rivers feel so enchanting?

I cannot put my finger on it… every time I’m down this way it just feels so homely and welcoming, like you just belong there. The long grass, winding roads, the hills and the cute little markets. I’ve lived in suburbia on the GC my whole life, but when I’m working down that way and cruising around it’s just pure, sky-high dopamine and it’s like this internal imbalance just feels corrected. My favourite towns are Tyalgum, The Channon, Dunoon, Main Arm, Lillian Rock & Bangalow. Channon and Bangalow.

The Channon & Bangalow markets are part of the weekend ritual at this point, we always meet the most friendly people there!

But yeah I don’t get the same feeling from anywhere in the Sunny Coast, Brisbane, GC hinterland… Springbrook is special though, as is Mt. Barney.

What do you guys think and what brought you here?

I recently moved into a rental with decent sized yard, was gonna buy your typical 4 stroke mower but figured I’m already in the ecosystem with my impact driver & drill so went and purchased a second hand Makita lawn-care package on marketplace, which included a DLM535 mower, DUR190L snipper and DUB184 blower… plus 5-6ah batteries, charger etc.

So far it’s been a fantastic buy and cannot fault a thing (this was expected tbh), but nothing could prepare me for the blower… this thing is like having a fucking cyclone in the palm of your hands. I went around my backyard like an idiot just blowing stuff around for half an hour, then turned a long monotonous sweep of the carport into a full on controlled weather event that’s basically over in 10 seconds and did a far better job.

Even going from my work Milwaukee M18 impact driver to my FIL’s Makita I had a similar reaction and was amazed by how natural it felt in the hand. So refined, not unnecessarily heavy or any dumb power like the Milwaukee had, just bloody brilliant… I do like both though!

Only in QLD would failing to dim your high beams attract a $66 fine, while driving around without your lights on at night is a $166 fine and speeding <10km/h over is $333.

Idk how many times you guys have been blinded by some cunt with his high beams and light bar on but it sure as fuck felt closer to $1,251-level dangerous.

Seems strange that some fines have increased by 3x in the past few years while others… haven’t been touched in 30 years. I’m a little pissed as some fella in a patrol tonight was heading the opposite direction and didn’t even touch his light bar/headlights. Just no fucks given… and our penalties reflect it perfectly.
