Elon Musk arrives in Purgatory and must work a minimum-wage job until he actually earns a trillion dollars. What do you make him do?

I'm thinking he can be a human footstool for all the impoverished children he killed with his USAID cuts. What's your proposal?

Why is Cambridge platforming Islamic creationism?

"An academic project hosted by Cambridge University platforms creationism, the belief that the world was created by God in seven days. It promotes an academic paper demanding that schoolchildren be taught to “actively resist” the science of evolution.

"At Charles Darwin’s old university, where a college is named after him, Darwin’s discovery is now described by one Cambridge researcher as an example of 'potential challenges posed by Eurocentric monoculture.'

"IELC [Islamic Educator Learning Community] publishes on its website, with a Camtree address, a paper on 'Islamic scientific critical consciousness' which asks: 'Does the common modern biological assumption that humans have common ancestry with other life forms conflict with [Islamic] religious beliefs about God creating Adam and Eve?'

"The paper says that 'countering colonial hegemony in science education for Muslims' could include 'identifying gaps in fossil records to make the case that the evidence of humans descending from apes is inconclusive.'"

Warning about the Irish Pages Press

Back in June, I placed an order for a book with the Irish Pages Press. Now, more than a month later, my book still hasn't arrived. I have tried writing to their customer support email address twice, but my emails have not been responded to. I tried calling their phone number twice, but no one picks up. As far as I'm concerned, this company is a scam. Do not order anything from the Irish Pages Press.

Thoughts on Is It College Yet?

I just finished re-watching the complete series of Daria, and I had a few thoughts on Is It College Yet?

  1. Having Kevin be denied graduation from Lawndale High was way too mean on the writers' part. Kevin was thick as two short planks, but he wasn't a malevolent character, and he didn't deserve such a brutal comeuppance. Now the character who did deserve a comeuppance was Upchuck. I would have loved to see him face a sexual harassment lawsuit as consequence for his behavior.

  2. I like how the writers decided to give Quinn a grown-up problem to confront in the form of Lindy's drinking problem. Most of Quinn's previous challenges in the series had been pretty superficial teenage fluff, and it fit in nicely with her growth over the fifth season to make her face something that required maturity.

  3. I'm glad that Glenn Eichler convinced MTV to conclude Daria with a second movie rather than the sixth season that MTV had originally requested. While I wish there were more episodes of Daria, the character arcs for Daria and Quinn had progressed to such a point over the fifth season that there was really nothing left to do except graduate Daria and send her off to college.

Anyway, what do you think of Is It College Yet?

"PSTAT" in "Is It Fall Yet?"

I just finished re-watching Is It Fall Yet?, and I noticed that Quinn and her friends referred to the PSAT as the "PSTAT." Would this be an attempt on MTV's part to avoid getting into legal trouble over the College Board's trademark covering the acronym "PSAT"? I am curious because I remember the PSAT being referred to by its correct name in an episode of American Dad! Might there be some other reason for slightly modifying the test's name?

Sorry, Zari, but I refuse to believe that a dress is that cheap in the eurozone.

Admittedly, I've only learnt how to say numbers up to eight, but my point still stands.
