To put it briefly, the idea is that my protagonist stands out from the rest of the cast because he has no magical abilities/items, he just punches and kicks enemies. Only special bloodlines can use magical skills, and he is the only major character in the cast whose bloodline is complete trash

Would that come off as lame ? Since he can't progress in interesting ways, all he can do is spar and exercise to get stronger. He also just doesn't do anything super flashy unlike everyone else
