Skirt Hem Ruffle Help

Hey all, could use some help with this skirt lining's hem ruffle.

Basically, I started sewing this skirt using a pattern I bought online, and it's been great for the most part, but now I've run into a snag. The pattern stated that the purple hem ruffle should be as it is in pictures 2 and 3, but after sewing it, I found that I like the way it looks in picture 1 better.

Now my question is, how can I best adjust the current skirt hem to look like picture 1? If I just turn it around now, the white lining will likely show up a lot more while walking as the 'prettier' purple hem is really short compared to the less pretty side, and the edges of the shorter hem aren't finished, so it could unravel and look kinda sloppy?

Preferably I do this without having to dismantle the entire hem. The lining is also not yet attached to the skirt if that makes a difference.

Thanks for any help!

How do I straighten without heat?

I have these cheap glow in the dark clip ins that were shipped folded up and because of that have these creases in them. I tried low heat with my straightener but even the lowest setting not even touching them melts the plastic. I tried hot water and that kind of helped, I heated it in the sink, combed, held it straight and dried it a bit, then put it in a thin cloth and flattened with a book but the bottom still stuck out. I’ve got it hanging weighted now with some clips trying to straighten but that doesn’t seem the best option.

Apologies this is a photo of it still in the plastic - I have 2 unwrapped, 1 braided so not a good example, and the other with clips on my hanging clip in thing I made.

How should I proceed?

I have a PETG EOD Helmet as shown, started with 120 grit sandpaper then brushed on a layer of woodfiller water mix. From there I sanded it with 320 grit, since then i’ve sprayed 2 layers of filler sandable primer onto it. What should I do?

what are your best tips for beginners on making wefts?

Im definitely learning but sometimes the videos dont give enough information! or sometimes people get so good at doing something and do it so often they forget what is truly basic information because its like muscle memory for them. what are some tips for making wefts?? favorite glue, how much hair you use in each weft, what type of surface to do it on, tools to use, etc! (ive been using uhu glue and it just will not soak through all the way even if i put it on both sides lol)

A little insight?

all I real need is for someone to tell me if this is really even doable or not. I don’t really care about 100% accuracy.

Recommended materials?

Hey guys, I’m looking to make this dress for con

What fabrics do you have experience in that you think would suit this dress? I’m looking for fabric for the the lining as well as the main bodies and drape

Thank you in advance

what would be appropriate kimono/yukata wear for this cosplay?

so im trying to cosplay a character from a historical manga set in the meiji era in japan (firefly wedding, the character is satoko kirigaya!) and as the manga is still fairly new and the anime has yet to release there are no official cosplays being sold online. i love this character and it’s my dream to cosplay her, and while i have the money to order something similar to what she wears online I unfortunately don’t have what I’d need to get anything custom made to be precise. I found a kimono / yukata (not entirely sure, im not super educated otherwise I wouldn’t be here lolol) on AliExpress where I’ll be getting the wig as well that kinda looks like a mix of her anime outfit + the specific manga outfit I’m trying to recreate. I also found a pink belt sash on there that would match the manga look especially if I have the bow up front like the character does. My only question is would this be disrespectful in any way? im already uncertain if buying a kimono / yukata that isn’t specifically made for a character to use for cosplay is generally an accepted thing, and of course there’s the addition of using that sash instead of the obi it originally comes with and putting the bow up front. if I could get someone who knows more about this than I do to let me know if this is an okay thing to do that would be so so helpful! Or if it’s not some advice on what to do instead would also be much appreciated :) thank you for reading!!

where to get boot covers/sleeves

i did read the FAQ but in all honesty, i can’t seem to find a place to get these. i was able to find a pattern tho which I’ll be using if worse comes to worse since i have no idea how to even begin w these but I’m js so confused on why these aren’t more of a thing even for daily life & not cosplay, i feel like there should be a market for these.
anyway, I’m trying to find these for an Emma frost cosplay since I know her boots are pretty high & if i were to buy the entire boot it’d be pretty pricey. any help would be much appreciated!

ProCosplay Tobey Maguire Spiderman suit sizing help!

Hey everyone,

Trying to decide what size suit to go for, and need a little help. I'm 168cm tall, so height-wise I'd fall into the Small category, but for the chest measurement I'm at 42" which is a Large on these suits. I normally make all my cosplays but with the Spidey suit I don't like my chances haha, so wanted to buy one.

I get the suits will have a little give in them, but I think the small is going to be way too tight? And I reckon the large will be way too long on the arms and legs. And with this suit specifically, with all the raised webbing glued on, I don't want to risk over stretching the material and causing it to rip off.

Anyone have experience with these suits that could provide some help, I'd really appreciate it! I have contacted all 3 suppliers of the same suit, ProCosplay, Unibuyplus and CosSuits, none have them have gotten back to me.

What counts as a technique or skill in cosplay comps?

What counts as a technique?
I am mapping out my next cosplay, and I have all the techniques listed so I can calculate the amount of time and difficulty each piece will take to complete and what materials I will need. It also helps to get a jump start on my build book.

Anyways, I am looking at using around 56 unique (in my opinion) techniques.
I showed my friend the list, and they told me that in cosplay competitions, some of the techniques I listed would be counted as one skill, and I shouldn’t waste my time on doing the same thing over again and should instead opt for something less time-consuming.

Example:
I will be using around 15-ish (we’ll see) different embroidery stitches and techniques (satin, feather, basket, Hungarian rope, goldwork, tambour, etc.). They said judges count this only as one skill under the umbrella of embroidery, so I shouldn’t waste time listing or adding so many stitches, as it will not earn that many points, and I should instead stick to something simple like a satin stitch or even forgo embroidery altogether and try a new skill like fabric painting or heat-transfer vinyl.

They have more experience in contests, as they've been doing competitions for years, but I recently got moved up to the same division (Master) as them. (I’m still kinda a baby cosplayer; I’ve only made two.) And part of me feels like this is sabotage.

TL;DR: How are skills in cosplays judged? Do they care if you use multiple techniques of the same skill, or is it a waste of time?

Also, how many techniques should I ideally be implementing in the masters category? I know 90% construction is the standard for most contests, but my friend is suggesting I narrow down to less than 20 so that the judges can more clearly focus on the craftsmenship of a few rather than lot, which I understand but also don’t understand at the same time. Isn’t masters the place to show up

help with deku

this is my first hand made cosplay, and i’m really proud of it, but there’s some changes i wanted to do and i need ideas on how would i do it.
i don’t know how to install led properly, i just glued a led sheet on the eye and kept it on when someone asked for photos, but i wanted do to like those old led signs where the led keeps failing but i have no idea how
the other thing is those gauntlets, they r a 4mm eva base and 4mm strips, they r fixed with pressure on my arms, so if my arms grows a little, i can’t use them anymore, and they r SO HOT, my skin can’tbreath underneath it, i wanted to make a flexible way to wear it that would not be a pressure fix
besides that, what you guys think about it? it looks good?

Best place to get iron-on-letters in a specific font (UK)

I’m new to costume making so trying to start with something simple. I’m trying to make the Tokyo Toilet boiler suit the main character wears in ‘Perfect Days’. I had a plain blue boiler suit already so the next thing I need is to add the lettering. I found out the font used in the real costume is ‘FF Mark Pro Bold’. I live in the UK and would like to find a supplier or a shop here that sells iron-on-lettering in that specific font. Or if not that exact one, something close. Any tips?

How do I secure this on my head?

Hello cosplayers of reddit!

I built this skull, which just sits on top of my head instead of around it. It's quite heavy but the weight is still distributed evenly. But the moment I lean to any side, the whole thing slips. My best solution at the moment is a rubber cap for my head, but I'm sure there are more decent options.

Because you can't really see it, the back of the skull sits roughly as high on my head as the visible parts.

I know the inside of the skull looks like a mess atm.

Open for questions and of course suggestions!
