UK Operator Flying Neo in France - Regs?

I have a UK operator and Flyer ID for my Neo; however this year I plan to take it with me to the EU which is another set of registrations.

I already got myself an EASA Operator Registration in France (n.b. this is free through ALPHA TANGO).

Can someone please confirm?

  1. Do I also need a flyer ID/ test for a NEO? (I think maybe not because <250g, but I'd like to confirm). If yes, how do I get one?
  2. Do I need drone insurance to fly the Neo in France (and perhaps Belgium)?

Thank you!

Jacket Pattern Draft - Shoulder Seams

I wonder if someone could shine some light into my darkness?

I'm trying to draft a pattern using an existing garment (man's sports jacket). However I can't quite figure out the shoulder seams - I don't recall ever seeing a pattern where the seam was anything but a straight line; however on this garment, it appears to curve gently from end to end. I'm aware that some extra width may have been eased into the seam at the back, which may be forcing this impression. However by taking measurements and observing the cloth design, I keep coming back to the idea that it's a curve... Is this a thing? Or am I just imagining it? Project halted while I sort this question out. Thanks for any thoughts.

Button Thread

Due to pressure of time, I got an alterations shop to lengthen my jacket sleeves for me. Which is OK, except that when they shifted the buttons down, they removed all the faux buttonholes.

To my eye this jars and I'd like to re-instate the buttonholes. I can do this myself & will work them by hand. However local shops don't sell buttonhole thread in a matching colour. Colour I need is a sort of olive green very close to Gutermann 861. None of the Gutermann topstitch threads is quite close enough.

What would you do? I could attempt to sew the buttonholes in the 861 sew-all thread and double up the strands, but I've a feeling it won't look so good, and as this is a purely cosmetic exercise that would be a pity.

Could use the closest available topstitch thread and gamble no-one will notice it - but I will know.

UK based - anyone know of another range of topstitch/ button threads, or how to colour match through other means?

Thoughts respectfully invited...

Vintage / Classic Cars in Ukraine

Is anyone here connected with the vintage car scene in Ukraine?

I tried reaching out to the Ukrainian Automobile Club, and a couple of other leads, but nobody replied.

I could use some definitive answers to a couple of questions - not really looking for 'educated guesses'. If anyone can connect me (e-mail) with a vintage car club or has direct personal experience do please reach out.

Just for clarity, when I say "vintage cars" I'm talking about pre-WW2. But I guess clubs which cater for cars up to the 1950's / 60's or so would be able to help.

Thanks!

Landline vs Mobile - is there a compromise?

I honestly hate using my smartphone as a telephone, give me a landline every time. Mobiles are adequate when you're on the move, but for 'business' calls from my desk at home I want an old-fashioned phone with a proper handset. I've tried headphones and earbuds and don't like them for various reasons.

Anyway I'm tired of paying for both, and find myself wondering is there something like a laptop 'docking station' but for 'phones? In other words, an old fashioned desk phone I could plug my mobile into for the connection, rather than transmitting through a landline?

On eBay I've seen handsets which can plug into a mobile with a 3.5mm jack plug, not expensive, probably not very high quality - looks like a novelty rather than a serious appliance. Something with a dial or key pad would be better still. Any suggestions please?

btw my mobile is a Samsung Galaxy A13 - no plans to change it.

I've seen a few posts here about the rights & wrongs of visiting Ukraine in wartime. Most of the replies from people within Ukraine seem to suggest that visiting and spending money can only help the Ukrainian cause - obviously providing you don't make a nuisance of yourself.

Is there anything more specific a short-term visitor can do to help? Someone visiting for a few days would probably not be able to contribute much to volunteer efforts locally, but might perhaps bring something along or pay someone a visit - practical, constructive ideas invited.

Also can anyone please tell me whether camping grounds (rather than hotels) are open in the west of the country, and able to host foreigners under present circumstances?

Thanks.
