People who tune into Game/Software Dev streams. Do you prefer the streamer vocalising what they're doing/thinking or prefer just background music with occasional chat interactions?
Have been trying to get into streaming my game dev efforts more and this is a question that's interested me. I usually vocalise as best I can but sometimes it ends up being mumbles if I'm real deep into a feature/issue and focused. I don't really plan to change that for now but am curious what other peoples thoughts are on the topic.
I'm guessing people fall into lots of different categories like some enjoy having the background music and hearing/seeing someone else working, I could see that being a cosy atmosphere for some remote workers to feel less like they're working in isolation. Maybe some like the music and occasional chat interactions but find constant chatter or narrating distracting. I could see others enjoy seeing someone else working alongside them but keep the stream muted and listen to their own music while they work and of course there are chatters who will just wanna come in and hang out, ask about my game, motivations, plans, ask game dev questions, share ideas, or just generally chit chat.
I may also play around with the idea of an on screen countdown for focus time with only music, mic muted and chat emote only as I do sometimes find the chat distracting when trying to work on something but that and other ideas could be a nice way of experimenting to see if people mention liking one over the other.
