Anyone preparing for FMGE and looking for a study buddy?

I’m starting my prep and thought having someone to study/discuss with might make it less stressful. Preferably someone who’s also starting around now.

Anyone here planning MBBS abroad and confused about choosing a university?

There’s so much mixed information online about fees, hostel, academics, clinical exposure, FMGE/NExT etc.

I’m currently studying MBBS abroad, so if anyone is confused about these things, feel free to ask. I’ll share my experience honestly — good and bad.

Be honest — if you could go back to the day you chose your course, would you still choose the same one? 😭

MBBS / BDS / Veterinary / MBBS abroad — what would you choose now?

MBBS abroad vs Private MBBS vs BDS vs Veterinary — my honest take as someone already studying MBBS abroad

I’m already doing MBBS abroad, so this is based on what I’ve seen and experienced, not just what I read online.

  1. MBBS abroad 🌍

Choose this if you genuinely want to become a doctor and cannot afford private MBBS in India. But don’t choose it just because admission is easy or fees are cheaper. Country, university recognition, clinical exposure, licensing exams, language and living conditions matter a LOT. Do proper research before paying anyone.

  1. Private MBBS in India 🇮🇳

If your family can comfortably afford it without putting themselves under huge financial pressure, I’d personally prefer this over going abroad. You avoid many of the complications that come with studying abroad and returning to India.

  1. BDS 🦷

Don’t take BDS just because “at least it’s medical.” If you genuinely like dentistry, absolutely consider it. But if your only goal is to become a physician and you know you’ll regret not doing MBBS, think carefully before choosing BDS.

  1. Veterinary 🐾

Honestly, underrated if you actually like animals and the field. But again, don’t choose it simply because you couldn’t get MBBS. Veterinary medicine is its own career, not a backup version of MBBS.

If I had to simplify it:

Government MBBS > affordable private MBBS > good MBBS abroad > BDS/Veterinary depending on your actual interest.

And I’d choose a course you genuinely want over a “better” course you’ll hate.

For anyone considering abroad, please don’t decide based only on fees or what an agent promises. Talk to current students and check everything yourself.

To every fresher planning to do MBBS abroad — PLEASE read this before you leave.

After spending a few years abroad, these are some things I wish someone had told me:

Don’t choose a country only because the fees are cheap. Your university, recognition, clinical exposure and future licensing options matter much more.

Friends are not your priority. Make good friends, but don’t destroy your academics, money or peace trying to fit in. People come and go.

Learn to manage money. Don’t spend your first few months trying to live like you’re on vacation 😭 Budget for food, transport, documents, emergencies, etc.

Study from the beginning. “I’ll start properly from next semester” is how you suddenly end up with years of backlo

g.

Don’t blindly trust consultants. Verify the university, fees, hostel, documents and future licensing eligibility yourself.

Learn basic cooking + basic life skills. You’ll thank yourself later.

Don’t compare your life with students in other countries/universities. Every place has advantages and problems.

Think about what happens AFTER MBBS before joining. Ask yourself: FMGE/NExT? PLAB? AMC? USMLE? Work in the country of study? Your destination matters.

Keep your documents and finances under your own control. Never depend completely on a friend or consultant.

Most importantly: don’t waste your first year. Explore, enjoy, make memories — but remember why you came there.

Seniors, what would you add? And freshers, what are you most confused/scared about before going abroad

And honestly, MBBS abroad isn’t for everyone.

If you’re getting government BDS and genuinely love dentistry, choose that over MBBS abroad.

But if you’re truly passionate about MBBS, can’t afford private MBBS in India, and understand the risks/licensing exams, then abroad can be a good option.

Don’t choose the degree just for the title — choose the career you actually want. ❤️
