Do Japanese people drink tap water?
【本文欄(Body / Text)】
Hello everyone! Japan is globally famous as one of the few countries where you can safely drink tap water straight from the faucet.
However, do modern Japanese people actually drink it?
Back in the Showa era-around the 1980s—it was completely normal for families to hydrate using just tap water. But over the years, premade bottled Barley Tea (Mugi-cha) became widely distributed, meaning families no longer had to boil and make it at home. Because bottle tea has a richer, better flavor, the demand for plain tap water dropped. Furthermore, the massive launch of bottled mineral water, like
"Mount Fuji Natural Water," heavily influenced society.
Today, even though our water infrastructure is still perfectly safe, I feel that more more Japanese households choose not to drink tap wate straight anymore.
How about your country? Is your tap water safe to drink, and do people actually drink it, or does everyone rely on bottled water and filters
I'd love to know your daily reality!
