My experience with VI Living Group as an LGBT renter

Hello all,

I'm currently going through the process of looking for an apartment with my boyfriend. We reached out to the Nanaimo based rental company VI Living Group about viewing available units at their buildings.

They got back to me and scheduled a viewing at The Grayson, at 320 Holly Avenue. Everything seemed fine initially. The person showing me the unit (I'll call him M) arrived about 10 minutes late and asked what I was looking for in a rental. I explained that I was looking for a one bedroom for my partner and me.

I usually use the word "partner" instinctively. When I referred to my partner as "he" a sentence later, M looked visibly confused and uncomfortable and repeated the word "he" back to me, apparently to clarify that he had heard me correctly. I confirmed that I was dating a man, and from that point onward, the tone of the viewing noticeably changed.

M continued showing me the unit, but whenever my boyfriend came up, he referred to him as my "roommate" instead. He also appeared visibly uncomfortable whenever my boyfriend was mentioned.

At the end of the viewing, I asked if I could quickly take some photos of the unit to send to my boyfriend, since he wasn't able to attend the viewing but obviously wanted to see the place. M initially agreed, but then immediately changed his mind and said the photos on their website should be good enough for my "roommate" to get an idea of the suite.

I didn't have the energy to argue about it, so I accepted it and moved on.

M then told me that if we were interested in the unit, I should contact him to complete the application. He said that if we were approved, I could bring my "roommate" to see the place after we had signed.

After spending a day debating whether the uncomfortable experience was something we were willing to overlook in order to secure an apartment, I contacted M and told him that I was interested in the unit and wanted to proceed with the application.

It's now been almost a week, and I haven't received any response.

Obviously, I can't say for certain why I haven't received a response, and I don't want to claim that I know M's intentions. However, the timing, combined with how noticeably his behaviour changed after learning that my "partner" was actually my boyfriend, has left me feeling very uncomfortable about the entire experience.

Everyone is entitled to their personal opinions, but I don't think those opinions should affect how professionally someone treats prospective tenants. If the unit was no longer available or they simply decided not to proceed with my application, I would have much preferred a straightforward response saying so rather than being told to contact them to apply and then receiving no response.

This was my experience with VI Living Group. I'm posting it so other renters, particularly LGBTQ+ renters, can make their own informed decision about whether they want to deal with this company.

Cheapest rental van/moving van

Hey all!

I need to book a van to help me move at the end of the month. Don't need drivers or anything and I'm just moving in town so not going far. I'm on a really tight budget as a 20 year old student so I'm trying to figure out my best options to go with. Doesn't need to be two big as it's just moving a small apartments worth of things.

Please give me any recommendations for business to look into!

Can't get my testosterone for another month

To try to summarize a long story, I've been on testosterone since 2022. Due to financial hardship and major life issues I've had to come on and off of it. I was on it constantly most of this year, and then tried out switching to gel because I have a needle phobia. Gel was way too expensive and I never remembered to do it, and the bottles I got were destroyed during a move. so I talked to my doctor about switching back to Injections. She agreed and said she would send the prescription over to my new pharmacy (I had recently moved)

The prescription never ended up arriving. I figured I had a spare vial somewhere so I dug around in all my boxes trying to find it and tried to make a new appointment with my doc to explain the prescription issues. I made an appointment at the pharmacy to get my injection done by a professional and when I showed up the pharmacist explained that she couldn't do it because my vial was passed the 50 day mark and was potentially expired. She also said she couldn't do it because it was prescribed subq but the box the vial comes in says it can only be administered intramuscular. By this point I've been off testosterone for almost a month

I can't see my doctor until September 11th because of unknown reasons. I just can't get an appointment earlier then that. I can tell my levels are messing up because I'm starting to feel absolutely awful. I've had constant cramping for like 4 days now and I've been bloated and gross and nauseated. My acne is really bad and painful. I'm also getting really dizzy. It's getting to the point where I might have to take time off work for this because I work as a baker and I don't feel comfortable with heavy lifting and using hot ovens while I'm this out of it and dizzy. Fortunately I have today and tomorrow off.

I haven't had a period since January of this year because I got a bc implant. I don't know if the implant is also failing on me or something but all I know is I can't get access to my medication for another month

Any suggestions for what I could potentially do?

I'm fully prepared to try and wait it out, but the cramping, even though it's mild, is really getting to me, and I feel like it's only going to get worse. I live in Canada if that's relevant

Incision Appearance

I'm currently 62 Days/9 Weeks post op from double incision with grafts and I'm really realizing that I'm unhappy with the way things are going. My Incisions look really uneven to me and I can't tell if it's all in my head. My nipples went necrotic so they look quite odd but I've kind of accepted that. I can't use silicone scar tape because I'm allergic to adhesives and I work a physical job as a baker that involves a lot of over head reaching and heavy lifting which I know definitely doesn't help. I feel like at some point I'm going to have to get revisions. Just wanting others opinions on the shape of my Incisions as well as the possible dog earing under my arms. Sorry for bad cam quality
